Although real life means there's no hope in hell of me being part of a tournament (ever), I approve the changes. Hindsight is indeed 20/20 and you used the time you had wisely.
Good luck all who enter.
Woe betide people entering with any scheming / meta gaming planned. ---- CONCORD arrested two n00bs yesterday, one was drinking battery acid, the other was eating fireworks. They charged one and let the other one off. |

You guys must have known this would screw with the PLEX prices. It even adds to the "conspiracy" that your Dr. in economics said PLEX's prices were being monitored and you had a cache of confiscated PLEX's to counteract fluctuations/speculation.
So when the PLEX prices return to the 480 mil level after this, we will know you werent in it to make money |

Man... who cares? The tournament was a good idea before the change and it's still a good idea with the change. The fluctuations in PLEX prices don't have much to do w/ the tourney at all. PLEX goes up every year around this time. CCP... no matter what you do there are some really dumb people out there and they will find something to complain about. Don't let the naysayers rain on your parade, or deter you from doing this in the future. I think it's really cool we get to watch two well-produced tournaments in one year.

What corestwo is saying is that serious AT contenders have historically spent several times that amount on ammo alone (a statement which is admittedly a little deceiving as high-grade faction ammo is a major expense). To throw around some numbers: Shadoo publicly proclaimed that PL spent about the cost of a titan on their AT participation last year and according to what a little birdie told me TEST had a 180b budget allocated for this year's AT. If anything participation in the New Eden Open tournament will be even more costly than AT participation as the ban system forces you to prepare a really wide variety of setups (unless, of course, you want to be the one team who can't bring the best possible fleet comp because you relied on buying everything last minute and a competitor bought out Jita for a crucial component of your setup ... ). Without the restriction rgd pilots having to have been in the alliance they fly for for a set amount of time (2 months for AT iirc?) buying highly specialized characters on the bazaar to fill holes in your line-up has also become a much more viable tactic (and again, due to the ban system you will need to have "all V" characters for a lot more different shiptypes and roles). If you enter the tournament with the sole goal of having a fun tournament experience you can probably get by with very little expenditure but if you play to win you are not even going to notice the impact of an extra 5b on your budget.
Precisely. No one to whom the entry fee was an issue will be a contender anyway. This post was crafted by a member of the GoonSwarm Federation Economic Cabal, the foremost authority on Eve: Online economics and gameplay.

from http://poeticstanziel.blogspot.ca/2012/10/ccp-addresses-cash-money-tournament.html
So I wrote a thing a few days ago. About the cash-money tournament. I cross-posted to the EVE Online forums where it generated a reasonable amount of reasonable discussion.
Today, CCP Bro announced some changes to the tournament. Specifically the minimum bid amount for the auction, and an increased number of prizes.
So, the minimum bid amount is being reduced from 20 plex to 10 plex. Being an auction, this won't have much of an effect on the high bids, and we're sure to see bids approaching 40 plex. All fine and good, the rich teams are going to want to make sure they get a slot in the tourney. But as the auction wears on (32 available slots after all), I think we'll see some teams get into the tournament for sub-20 plex bids. And that's good.
I am also impressed that CCP is adding 275 plex to the tournament as additional prizes for first, second and third place. Payable either to the team sponsor or the team captain (to be divvied up, or not, as they see fit.)
There also will be additional prizes (for competitors and spectators) from Razer and Logitech.
CCP Bro also talked about their production costs:
Quote:What most people fail to include is the significant production costs involved in a large scale production like the New Eden Open. For this tournament we are building an entirely new set, renting top of the line production equipment, and we are contracting professional sound and video engineers to ensure we deliver the best possible production to our players and fans. To this I say, "Boo hoo." I'm still quite adamant that these tournaments are a marketing opportunity for CCP, and as such, the costs should not be borne by the players directly, on top of their subscription fees. (Every month you play this game, it is being paid for by someone.) Players had hoped for additional tournaments, but they weren't screaming for them. Players aren't demanding an entirely new stage set or the hiring of professional sound and video engineers. (The last set was nice, and could have been re-used with some minimal modifications. And Alliance Tournament X production was excellent, except for some feed hiccups, which I don't think a professional sound or video engineer would have solved.)
Anyhow, the point is, this tournament is marketing for the game, so write it off as a marketing expense. The players should not be underwriting these events for CCP. If these tournaments are too expensive for CCP, then they either shouldn't run them, or they should find sponsors to help underwrite them.
Other than tournament funding questions, these changes are very welcome indeed. Kudos to CCP for making these modifications to the tournament.
I'm looking forward to spectating the New Eden Open. Caldari Militia |

I often fail to bother saying something when I appreciate a change, but thank you CCP. This has really made the whole tournament a lot more interesting and exciting, now that you can really hope to win something big.
Really appreciate this change. I likely won't be able to compete this time around due to school, but if this is the track you are going down for E-sports style play I really look forward to participating in the future. This definitely opens things up for those of us not already firmly considered in the "elite" of eve pvp to show what we've got.
Thanks again! |

Since this seems more of a commercial event
I would love to see it hammed up a bit
Sponsor logos on ships Special Sponsor 3d logo would appear as the ship exploded
On the edges of the areana area are this large TV board found at gates advertising sponsors Sponsors showing as commercials on the broad cast, Ticker tape advertising along the bottom of the broadcast feed
Worried about the advertising breaking the Emerson of the world because of the poor commercials made?
Allow a person the choice of 10 base commercials , with the option to add corp, alliance logos, 15 optional written slogans or catch phases or messages, option to include character portrait from eve
Oh baby this would be such an isk sink.!!!
Some day I will have the internet and be able to play again. |

So you gave in to the simpletons who always complain. Very sad. You don't enter a grand slam open without investing in years of tennis training out of pocket before hand. Major poker tournament require investment and skill to even get a small return. Sad you give in to those nitpickers who would even complain about "free ships for all for a month". If 500$ a player or 25-1 isn't good odds for return investment for these noobs they don't trust their skills and consequently shouldn't be competing at all.

Did it ever occur to you that most of those tournaments have sponsors or get help for outside organisations such as the IPL. CCP is shouldering the entire running cost for this tournament without help and has just announced massive additions to the prize pool as well. But no because some random idiot doesnt like it, best call the whole thing off. Do us all a favour, shut up and let the adults talk. |

This is a marketing budget cash outlay, hopefully well-spent and with good long-term returns for both CCP and its business partners. +++++++ I have never shed a tear for a fellow EVE player until now. Mark GÇ£SeleeneGÇ¥ Heard's Blog Honoring Sean "Vile Rat" Smith. |

LOL there is no information about any teams that have already signed up. Maybe there are none. What CCP Bro said is an outright lie. Unless, ofc, there aren't any teams signed up yet. In which case LOL |
