On a 14 day free trial. After outfitting my frigate with two 125 mm auto cannons and buying 6000 rounds of Proton S ammo I have about 30K left. With that I can either buy the Learning skill for 30K or a Slasher for 20K. Do I really -need- to get out of the free ship (right now I'm doing agent missions) or can it wait and which would you recommend?
Also how do buying skills and pod deaths work? If I'm podded with rank 1 in learning do I completely lose the skill and need to rebuy it or is it dropped to rank 0?

I think its probally a better idea to go for the learning skill, keep the free ship for now and save up for a better one . Regarding pod kills you will need to update your clone by using a medical facility. Each clone keeps a certain amount of skill points, aslong as the clone you have *if* you are podkilled covers more skillpoints then you have you will lose nothing. You will however have to buy a new clone of course -Boogles- |

BTW a skills 'rank' refers to how long it takes to learn that skill a rank 1 will take less time to learn than say a rank 4 etc..

The freebie ship is not that great. The 20k ship is a pretty big jump in abilities. Not getting the learning skill right now and training something else will only delay your skillpoints by 2%. 2%! For only a few days, by which point you should have enough cash to buy it.
About death and skills, it's like this: Open your character sheet and look at how many skillpoints you have, at the top of the list. Dock to a station with medical services (the newbie Academy where you did your tutorial has medical services), and look at how many skillpoints your clone can hold.
As long as the clone can hold more than you have, you don't lose any skills when dying. Even if you've just right-clicked on a skill and just started training it, it will stay in your character sheet and continue training as if nothing happened.
You do lose the clone, though, when dying, and have to immediately buy another one. If you die again "without" a clone, you lose something like 5% from one of your highest skills.
In any case, skills are never removed from your character sheet. They may be reduced to 0, but they'll still be listed with 0 points.

The image usually takes 24 hrs to appear, you don't need to do anything. Well, the servers are down so that may delay the process a bit.
