OP if you were around for the Trinity Expansion (and all the threads about it) you wouldn't be complaining about the graphics.
CCP is improving it but there is a reason why they are not using the latest and greatest and requiring people to upgrade there PC to handle it.
EVE still looks better then any other space game out there, even with the old graphics engine. EVERYBODY KNOWS |

We all know, when we look at the game, what graphic assets are awful and must be reworked/updated, the "broken furniture" ships, certain "moldy" textures and my (not so) favorite - fake, unrealistic "mist" . Red Maiden: People actually play with WiS off? Why? It's really well done, and adds an excellent layer of immersion in the game. kryjak wrote:Has anyone been annoyed with low graphics and crappy engine eve uses? Game has been alive for so long i cant even remember when i first started playing it anymore. I mean isnt it time texture quality get bumped a noch? Eve ships and most other texture resolutions are in 512 x 512. I plyed games this resolution on games back in 1995. Common now its 2013. Should CCP include more options for players that run high end machines. I think YES. Even so todays technology and market are forcing better quality in products and textures have imroved over 10 years a lot. It doesnt cost arm and leg anymore. A $400 pc can hande a lot higher textures then eve engine uses now, and if u cant afford one u shouldnt be playing eve at all. I think it would be time do change some graphics quality in EvE and include more options for players. Another things along is mesh. Too much EvE mesh is too square and outdated. Over years i realize and see the difference comparing it to most games today Eve is falling behind a decade. EvE dosnt look fresh and realistic like it looked 5 years ago more or less. EvE needs an upgrade and a big one.
There is something wrong with you. Get your Eyes or PC checked. I play multiple MMOs and i can safely say none of them has as advanced graphics as EVE. Not even newest ones.
Fact that you can play EVE on 5 year old PC doesnt mean graphic is old. Have u heard of something called system optimalisation? EVE excells at it.
FYI u cant compare EVE or any other MMO graphic with SP games like Crysis 3 or so.

I agree - EVE need serious graphic upgrade.
When people say /write "EVE is about spaceships" I chuckle because I'm flying in fleets and all I can see (while scrolled out a bit to see whole fleet) is ugly brown / black mess with white / red / green strokes from lasers and dotted lines from blasters. I just can't see anything like spaceships on my screen but Excel tables and some dirt between them.
More colors, please. More explosions. More light. |

Agree that higher resolution textures should be there. Other than that, the recent shader updates and the promise of tessellation and better Direct X 11 support is great progress.
After seeing the new destroyer models however, I'd say CCP need to hire new artists as well as present that art using more modern technology. |

I'm quite content with Eve graphics when compared to other MMO's. (Go look at LOTRO, or WoW and ignore the flashy lights that follow your character). However I'm also very looking forward to the projected Eve graphics updates they showcased as in development this year (Hey Op, watch the Youtube video, it says they listened to you... before you even complained, they predicted your future complaint), with real hull map collisions! |

Agreeing that higher textures should be made available. I also understand that Eve is a DirectX9 game and in truth theres only so much you can do with old technology so I cant see the game becoming greatly better visually until DirectX10-11 is written.
Which would probably take a heck of a long time so it wont ever get done.
I also agree with a previous poster, on full HD resolution with everything on high, Eve looks nice very nice but there are things which need updating big time.
1. Asteroids look god awful
2. Gas clouds look really nasty & rubbish - in truth you should be using actual particles to create these clouds.

EVE is an old game. The graphics have improved since 2004. I appreciate CCP continued work to bring us more. Can it be better if it was made today ? Yes. But then again EVE is an old game.
Let me reiterate. EVE is old by mmo standards. Go look at elder scrolls or some other stuff that came out about same time. This game is not the norm and CCP deal with things that the average gaming company just said no to and let the game shelf itlself instead.
There other option is to make EVE2. From scratch. Flame On |

Personally I can live with the actual graphics very well because they are looking good enough for most of the situations. In fleets fights I mostly run scaled out and by overview and brackets only. Updating the graphics of EVE is a big, really big task. Especially when you want to keep it on different levels for slow and fast cards.
What I like to see for this game is a Battlerecorder. It's on the community wishlist for ages now and there were several threads about cool features and ideas. It also was discussed with CCP by the CSM a while ago afaik. A Battlerecorder saving the action to a script would be simply awesome. We have a lot of people with high skills in editing and animation and such a tool would give us a completely new dimension of presenting the game content people create. PvP videos would be on a new visual and cinematic level with different pov's and great camera work. Rendering this in higher quality with better effects would give CCP the best ads out there for their game. |

Alright now a Xenuria post is happening.
I play games because they are fun but the degree to which they are fun is influenced heavily by how "real" or "immersive" they are. EVE needs some work in the graphical department.
CCP needs to realize that not everybody who plays eve is doing 400+ ship blogs. Some of us like to take screen shots of ship engagements up close and others of us simply enjoy immersing in the world of New Eden.
Perhaps a compromise?
When you zoom in the game seamlessly loads a sharper texture for screenshots and other such things. Then when you zoom out it goes back to the normal texture.
If I had my way they would just pile on the "OPTIONAL" HD ENHANCED SUPER MEGA HOLY **** graphics.
That way nobody complains about anything. The people that want a high end experience can get that and the people that don't can simply ignore the extra option in the graphics menu.

I've just finished Dishonored and although the graphics aren't really 2012 standard in that game, they have an INCREDIBLY smooth texture/object loading method.
If you switch to another weapon that you have not used in a while, the textures go from low res to med to high res in about 0.5 seconds, same for when you look closely at an object/poster on a wall.
I wish Eve had smooth texture changes like that, like, if you decided to zoom in really close to your ship, the texture would dynamically scale instantly and smoothly to a high res version. Inappropriate signature, CCP Phantom. |

Also, why the **** not compare Eve to Crysis? Just because idiots say that an MMO can't look good because "insert bullshit hilariously misinformed reason here"? Only real reason why MMOS are not made to look like the Crysis / Metro 2033 standard is because most people don't have aweseome computers and that would really **** the player base up, not because of some ******** bullshit technical limitation like "it's online" or some ****.
I find it interesting that for someone with the breadth of experience you claim to have, you don't understand the differences inherent in how graphics must be handled in a huge multiplayer game compared to single/liimited player games.
Crysis is used as a benchmark for graphics card testing because it is incredibly demanding. It brings many otherwise capable systems and video cards to a crawl. Now multiply that by a 3000 man fleet battle and you begin to understand.
There is certainly room for improvement, indeed that work is constantly ongoing... and discussions about Tesselation have already begun. But you will never get the kind of graphics quality in EVE that you will get in a game that doesn't have the potenttial for thousands of players to be on screen at once. To carve a successful niche for yourself in EVE you need to be able to out sell, out produce, out fight,-á out run, or out wit your competitors. If you can do none of the above, your only option is to complain on the forums that somehow you are at a disadvantage using the exact same tool set-áas the rest of the player base. |
