Hello,
So far I am on a free account, but I just found out that if I choose continue playing I will have to pay more than other players simply because of where I live.
The monthly Pound Sterling and US dollar fees are about the same but the Euro fee is quite a bit higher. Is there a rational explantion for that? |

I'm going to guess it has to deal with the exchange rate. Your best bet is to file a petition for the billing department and ask a Billing GM about this, it's not something we can really answer here in the forums. Thanks for the link although it doesn't quite adress my question. I don't use dollars, euros or pound sterling. In order to play I have to change some money. Since I live in Europe I have to change to Euro which at 15 euro/month is quite a bit more expensive than the other two correncies.
Think about it thsi way. The monthly fees in euros and dollars are both 15. But the euro is worth more than the dollar. |

I am neither complaining nor whining. I am simply asking. I was hoping for a more mature answer. |

In the real world yes, but CCP wants all European countries apart from the UK to pay using Euros (so they can make more money?). It picks that currency automatically.
Since it has no effect on gameplay or CCP where I live it is a bit difficult for me to understand. |

Asking why there is such a difference in monthly fees is a legitimate question. |

Actually, since I'm Swedish I have a similar issue.
If I pay directly to CCP I have to pay 15 Euro (due to taxes and joint legislation).
But I can buy GTC from the US (battleclinic, shattered crystal and others) and pay in USD, dodging the tax/VAT.
Technically I'm most likely breaking some laws (it's possible that I should pay VAT on the electronic service I bought from the US since it's actually performed within the EU/EEC area) but frankly I take a runner and hope that I'm not going to get an angry email from the taxman.
But really.
CCP are bound by law to pay VAT for services provided within the EEC framework.
Their solution is a bit heavy handed, but not really that unfair.
And if you don't like it, learn to overcome it.

Exchange rates. The Euro isn't performing very well (frankly, it was never going to).

I see your point regarding VAT, but the VAT is different in, say, Sweden, Germany and Portugal. Therefore having one rate would seem a bit strange. |

The exchange rate changes for the Euro and the Pound Sterling are roughly the same compared to the US Dollar over the last five years, so that it not true. |

As I recall there is more than 3 currencies in the world. If you look at the broad picture, the Euro is not performing very well these days. You are missing the point. All currencies fluctuate. The Euro does it. The Dollars does it. The Pound sterling does it. That is the way floating exchange rates work. If a currency lost a significant amount of value for an extended period of time then it would make sense to raise the price in that particular currency, but that is not the case. What I fail to understand is why comparatively the Euro fee is so much higher than the Dollar or Pound fees. |

This currency thing can work for you also, it sure does for me. I buy GTC from authorised seller in US, pay by paypal and currency change from euro to $ works in my favor. Not bad considering how many accounts i run, most of the time. Yes, i could probably grind enough isk per month to play for free, but that would be too much like second job.
