So I created a thread on the SW:TOR general discussion forums basically describing the ways in which I was underwhelmed by the Eurogamer demo, and suggesting that Bioware's bid to play it safe on their mechanics and go for Star World of Warcraft might have been the wrong direction.
After five minutes and two pages of shocked feedback from the player base describing how Bioware was perfect and could do no wrong, my thread was suddenly deleted and every trace it ever existed wiped from the forums.
If this is the way they deal with constructive criticism before the game even has started, I forsee the history of Star Wars MMORPG's quickly repeating itself...

I am not surprised!
Most US based games are moderated to death compared to Europe based games!
The main reasons are:
- The companies fear of being sued by someone who is disgusted by what was posted on forum. (Note: The game company has far more money than the poster, so Mr disgusted lawyers will go after the money)
- The companies do not like criticism, especially if it is on a major recruiting campaign or patch release (As you point out they desperately want to have every thing is all hunky dory veneer to their forums)
- Their moderators actions are actually scrutinised by the company lawyers and executives (So moderators will over react to protect their own backs & jobs)
Just look at the difference between:
Unofficial Community for LOTRO fans
Started by European players disguised at Turbines heavy handed moderation, that started even before Turbine took over the European servers. It even has the old Codemaster LOTRO Moderators and Community Staff as members!
While Turbine's offical forums are still beta and are a haven of sweetness & light!
Turbines Main LOTRO Forums
Just be thankful Iceland and therefore CCP has a European outlook on free speech, rather than the Lawyer & Corporate dominated version of free speech available in the US |

I used to follow Turbine's DDO forum and it was the same thing. Lots of deleted/locked topics in the interest of the game, instead of actual moderation going on like cleaning a thread.
Independent forums are the way to go, but the problem is you need a reason for people to come to your forum. Some resource that random people will seek out through google or word of keyboard in game and keep coming back to your site to use anyway. The Wiki system is probably the easiest and most promising way, but even if you manage to pull a decent population you're still gambling on the founder's ability to manage and moderate better than the official forums' staff. |

I for one am welcoming the goon style posts and videos on those forums.
I found that their posts as starfleet dental in STO was incredibly funny. |

IGÇÖm not surprised that theyGÇÖre going all ban happy with constructive criticism, with all the hype thatGÇÖs been built up around that game, they donGÇÖt want you leading their flock away from the Kool-Aid.
No disrespect to Bioware either GÇô theyGÇÖre an amazing game developer, their puppet-masters LA & EA are not. I just hope that their future isnGÇÖt hurt by LA & EAGÇÖs poor business decisions and management.

Just goes to show what kind of shallow weak game it will turn out to be. Even affraid of critizism. Yeah, that shows how 'strong' the game is... :P
To bad really. They could potentially have made soemthing good, if they made an effort. But it is no surprise that they only wanna milk the SW name of all it is worth. |

Doesnt matter people who like that game are the epitome of fanboidome. Most star wars fans are. That game is hands down a clone of clones. If you like that kinda thing then more power to ya, but to fool yourself into thinking it's something new....
But it is their hardware your using on their forums. So their rules. Unless your thread was really overboard or dickish it does seem heavy handed though. |

lol TOR is garbage, shouldn't dedicate your time to it. Starwars is raped by LA and put out terrible games the last decade...mostly unfinished games and sell them.
Until the TOR cinematics are a full star wars game, then that's the real deal.
Bioware's primary is Mass Effect 3 and they have all their elites working on more important projects like that. TOR = zZzzZzzzZz boring. |
