What if we had a deployable module, sort of like the Mobile Warp Disruptors, but instead of disrupting warp, as soon as a hostile ship moves into its range, it sends out a automated post into a designated channel. For example:
Mobile Large Sensor Array II Range: 120km Channel: Alliance Post: "Hostile detected within range of your Large Sensor Array II located in Jita"
Maybe have it have some sort of a negative drawback, such as cutting ship speed by half, or dropping scan resolution.
A further idea would be the ability to load different scripts into it, such as ship identification scripts, cloak detection (but not cloak reveal) scripts, etc.

Yes, lets extend the ease of gathering intel from local to systems you're not currently in.
I think it would be a good thing to go along with removing local, but compounded with local it would just make things even worse. "It's no use crying over spilt milk, because all the forces of the universe were bent on spilling it." ~William Maugham |

So an untiring intel watchdog without having to use scouts or any players at all in the area? I'm not a fan of the idea. |

i wish the whole information found on the map was based on modules like this, from cheap disposables that only give vague information to very expensive and sneaky ones that give almost any information |

You don't need a module for this you just need a crew. That is why ships have sonar/radar, and other officers. The idea that one brain plugged Into a machine is better than several hundred all specializing in different tasks is just asinine.
The reason that we need local is because it is close to impossible for one man to navigate, assess threats, and use the D-scan and probe all at once. Properly implement a crew system however, and local is no longer needed.

What are your thoughts on this? In highsec, who is the hostile? No use. In lowsec, everyone is hostile. Over use.
And unless you're in Goon space (where everyone is blue for 10 trillion light years in every direction), receiver of said broadcasts would be flooded everytime even so much as small fleet went though.
You'd just make spamming players etc. legal......
I get what you're saying but no thanks. That's what intel is for. "I've always been mad, I know I've been mad, like the most of us...very hard to explain why you're mad, even if you're not mad..."

this in game already. all the pilot has to do is post up in some channel I got me a neut/hostile in hell ec- on torrinos gate. See ship type when jump cloak breaks, reports that. Can't tackle it...well then report it heading to blah blah gate/celestial.
All this requires no mods. You can do this when you log in tonight even. Unless grid changed size and I missed it this even has better range than 120 km's.. |
