I am a troll because I know how to use the in game map? I assure you I can pick any region in the game, and find the shortest way, without using any out of game tool. Do not blame me if you cannot figure out a simple map tool.

If I don't have suitably placed alts or jump clones and I want to check prices in Jita, I could simply set Jita via the map, but that wouldn't necessarily be the shortest route to the Forge region.
How do I find the that shortest route?
Look up the forge region on dotlan. The entrypoints into the region are the square systems. Set autopilot to each square system. Note the number of jumps for each.
After you have done them all pick the shortest route. Ungi ma+¦urinn ++ekkir reglurnar, en gamli ma+¦urinn ++ekkir undantekningarnar. The young man knows the rules, but the old man knows the exceptions. |

^ This of course is also very true.
Learn the space where you live. Remember systems and possible routes around the space you live in. Inject your skillbook before you leave the station. DOTLAN has nice overlays for kill, sov, secstatus, jumps, ombey's maps are good but I like the live data on dotlan. Ungi ma+¦urinn ++ekkir reglurnar, en gamli ma+¦urinn ++ekkir undantekningarnar. The young man knows the rules, but the old man knows the exceptions. |

Not 100% sure this method will work but give it a try.
Go to autopilot settings and set to prefer safer then look for a slider in that window and set it to max. I believe that slider determins how far out of the way it will go to stay in highsec on the route but I Don't touch it so not sure it will work. When set to max it might have your ship gtfo of lowsec asap so that as much of the trip is in high as possible. |

Ok...what's happnin' in this thread? *popcorn*
Seriously.... I have a Q on this subject, and yes I am an idiot. Now, that's confirmed...again...
I want to plot the quickest route, using the method that was described earlier, to get from 1.0 to 0.0. I then want to create a loop around the map in 0.0.
It seems that I can only do this manually by adding waypoints. Once the loop is complete, I want to save this route like anyother in my People and Places folder and for the life of me I can't figure out how to do that. *punches keys very hard*
I know I'm blind...but damn.... "Programming today is a race between software engineers striving to build bigger and better idiot-proof programs, and the Universe trying to produce bigger and better idiots. So far, the Universe is winning."

Robert De'Arneth wrote:I am a troll because I know how to use the in game map? You are a troll because the OPhas asked how to obtain the shortest route to a REGION and your reply refers to setting a route to a system.
Robert De'Arneth wrote:I assure you I can pick any region in the game, and find the shortest way, without using any out of game tool. So why are you incapable of explaining how you do it?
DeBingJos wrote:Look up the forge region on dotlan. The entrypoints into the region are the square systems. Set autopilot to each square system. Note the number of jumps for each.
After you have done them all pick the shortest route. Well that's a step in the right direction, but doesn't quite equate to the OP's question of how to do it in game, and why didn't you just say that to begin with instead of "Its pretty easy to see at a glance."?
J'Poll wrote:Learn the space where you live. Remember systems and possible routes around the space you live in. And if I'm not in the space where I normally live . . . ?
Robert De'Arneth wrote:But I can use the in game map, learned it my own, so i can live with whatever it is you see. I would hate to be sos stupid i could not figure out that simple tool. And yet you are incapable of explaining how that map can be used to determine the shortest route (within the Autopilot settings) to a given region.

After doing some further research, it does in fact seem you can NOT save a custom route. One must manually reset each waypoint every time they want to duplicate the route at a later date.
At least it was this way in 12/01. I assume it remains the same and I am not that blind?

No, there doesn't seem to be a way of saving a custom route, sadly. And it seems there's no clean way to find the nearest entry point in an astrographic region, either.
All that can really be offered at this point are workarounds and approximations, I'm afraid. |

Thanks Marc, you were really helpful. Sounds like this should be a feature suggestion at this point. Who's with me?
Just imagine, somewhere in the map settings you can setup filters to narrow down the total list of systems like "is in region ___", "Has security status of ___", "Is within __ jumps", "Has station count ___" Wouldn't be too hard to setup, in fact you could do it out of game on a website. But i mean, is it reasonable to assume that a spaceship should have the technology to do this already? It's not about the game holding your hand or anything like that, it's about being able to do the little **** as quickly as possible so that you can really focus your energy on bigger things--WHILE staying true to lore. |
