I don't really understand the difference between mining drone "amount" and mining drone "yield" . The Mining Drone Operation skill increases yield, but when I click on my mining drones and request info, the Mining Amount of 25m3 for my Mining Drone IIs is always the same. How do these little critters work?? Evelopedia;-á

Make sure to look at stats through the fitting window (open the drone bay from there).
Mining Drone I: Mining Amount = 15 m3 Mining Drone II: Mining Amount = 25 m3
Total Mining Amount = base amount * (1 + Drone Interfacing * 20%) * (1 + Mining Drone Operation * 5%)
Of course, you can just look at how much ore they dump in your hold. |

... And if you are newer to the game, try to factor in the training time involved in getting those drone / mining drone skills up as apposed to training the skills that will either keep you alive ($) or improve your base mining yield / ability to sell or use the ore ($).
I still think anything beyond the lower mining drone skills required to use them are a waste until you have your bases covered in other ways . |

Maybe speed of drones is quicker giving you more m3 over time. |

Actually, getting drone interfacing V gives yield 100%.... and damage 100% for combat drones, so is well worth it. Mining Drone V is only 9 days total training. Well worth it if you mine on a regular basis, as 5 mining drone II's are just about the equivalent of a T2 strip miner.
I agree that if you don't have the basics down, you should get them first, but you don't need to push this to the absolute end either.

Everywhere I check my Mining Drones display the base yield as well. But I know the bonus is there from what gets put in Cargo. Now that I think about it, I don't believe I've checked this by right clicking a drone actually in flight......... |

The mining drone yield amount always displays how much the drone yields (its base) regardless of if you are docked, in space, or if the drones are in space within the show info window.
I have honestly never figured out the way to figure out what a mining drones yield will be with skills/ship modules, etc other then by using Eve fitting tool. But even with this your yield will also change with every situation because of the distance that they will be traveling. Also I believe drones round down, so you'll get screwed on yield if the ore type is not divisible to their max m3 amount. For example if the drone can carry 15M3 it could yield 15M3 veldspar every trip (veldspare is .10m3) But with Jaspet it would be hauling less then 15M3 (Jaspet is 2M3) so the drone will haul 14M3.
Honestly the best way to figure out their yield is based on your current situation, and see how much they haul per trip based on ore type and distance. Time 1 trip from roid to ship, divide that by 60 minutes and figure out the M3 to isk ratio. |

I can see you can only work it out, when the drones bring back the ore to an empty cargo, then you simply divide the volume of ore by 5, and you have yield per drone. Having it show in the info window would be better ccp, if you're listening, please implement. Evelopedia;-á

Hah! I noticed this 2 years ago and just never said anything about it as I thought I was just missing something I'd figure out later. |
