First, english is not my native language, so please be kind and feel free to ask, if something is too hard to understand, because of bad writing.
2nd, i-¦ve found a suggestion-thread, that covers some ideas GÇô but it-¦s locked, since it-¦s more than 90 days old.
So I decided to post a new one here.
If you watch some eve trailers (and the latest Dust 514 gameplay videos), there are some nice layouts and presentations/mechanics of menus and listings and so on. Especially in the Dust video GÇ£Way of the mercGÇ¥ you could see the interaction and UI, that I got in mind.
I like to see a bit of this visuals in eve online, too. (may also add a switch for GÇ£classic modeGÇ¥ for people, who donGÇÖt) ;)
In general: less excel, but a more consistent GÇ£captainGÇÖs quarterGÇ¥ feeling.
Sure GÇô you have to deal with a lot of listings, it-¦s in the very nature of our game. But why not have it more appealing and poilished?
Take the walking in station feature:
If you are in the GÇ£quartier-modeGÇ¥, information is displayed on some monitors and you can mouse over some objects (e.g. agent finder) and gather some more information.
But if you click such an object GÇô an old fashioned menu or listing pops up - representing a crude visual and atmospherically break. (in my opinion)
(This example should stand for most of the currently implemented UI)
Suggestion & ideas:
Make the objects (let-¦s take the agent finder again) really a display for information. If clicked, the cam could zoom onto object, so the information becomes actually readable and the object could be handled like a real menu/listing/whatever.
It would provide a more consistent, realistic and deeper feeling of interactions in a space station-quarter, I think.
This kind of more sophisticated visuals should at least be presented, when docked. When undocked, just listings appear (like now), but just a bit more visual appealing.
Another idea is for navigation thru the game-menu. It-¦s good to have all these buttons and icons GÇô but some kind of (partially configurable?) click-wheel-thing would be nice, too.
Like pressing down middle mouse and access some actions with itGǪ like evemail, market and so on.
Can we expect stuff like this in future iterations of eve? Am I the only one, who would like to see some stuff like that / a visual overhaul in general? Or is it technically impossible?
