ok, as most of us F&I lurkers/posters know there are a lot of threads talking about ISK sinks and remove local (or at least delay it)
why not make local an ISK sink, for example, if you want to see people in local then you pay CONCORD (simply because they operate the local relay beacons) some ISK to show it for however long the person wants (be it for 30 mins, to 23 hours 30 mins or longer) the cost will be based on 30 min intervals and can be purchased at any station in eve (as long as you can dock in it and alliance stations will have it built in) or purchase it at the billboards at the gates or the gate its self (add a new button to purchase it) the timer will last in any system you jump into (so lets say you purchase it at jita, you can fly out to the deepest nullsec space and it still will work. EXCLUDING WORMHOLE SPACE) now the nice part of the idea. local chat will still be there, it will then work like wormhole space, where no one appears until someone speaks in there which then will just broadcast to everyone. the cost for it will be something small like 100K ISK or 500K isk for every 30 mins so its still affordable to everyone (STFU everyone is rich in eve at this moment, dont drag noobs into this cause 90% of them are alts and you know it)
another point OR idea to add will be a small delay in joining local chat (if you purchased it assuming that the first point is added as well) something short like 30 secs to at most a minute. which will be a skill people can train up (no idea for a name for it at the moment, but it will lengthen the time it takes for you to show up in local by 10% per level so at level 5 your taking a minute to show up in local chat.
any ideas or comments on this idea to either improve it? (please no bitching about boo hoo your talking about removing local chat or this will only be avaliable for rich people!)
the TLDR version:
1: create isk sink by purchasing local chat at 30 min intervals for a small cost
2: delay people joining local chat for at most 1 min, at least 30 secs |

Nah, make it like a 1000 Isk cost everytime somebody jumps in.
Because exploiting that against docked up / cloaked up AFKers would be hilarious. |

local is hardly used anyway aside from smack talk and spaming, this would kill it even more. |

Interesting idea. Sadly this idea puts poorer players (most of which are young) at a disadvantage against wealthier players (who are generally older). Change isn't bad, but it isn't always good. Sometimes, the oldest and most simple of things can be the most elegant and effective. |

not exactly, simply put, at the moment a character who's a week old can earn easily a 100mill an hour in FW. and then there are also other ways |

But that's not entirely the point I was trying to make. So let me rephrase...
This "raises the bar" to be "effective." Because of local's intel power, it'd be stupid to not pay the ISK fee. All it does is necessitate that players earn more money to pay the fee... which older and/or wealthier players are in a better position to do.
fake edit: this just came to me... This "local fee" won't quite affect null-sec the way you think it will. 0.0 groups tend to be very organized relative to other players. They can just have one or two people pay the fee and watch local for everyone else. Same goes for gangs/fleets... only the FC and his/her scouts would need to pay the local fees... all the rest of the group has to do is listen and follow orders. Change isn't bad, but it isn't always good. Sometimes, the oldest and most simple of things can be the most elegant and effective. |
