this is why one of the things I mention early on in explaining basics to new people, is how you can queue up 23 hours and 59 minutes of training, then a 20+ day skill, then not log in for almost 21 days, and not lose any training time.
if you are not going to be able to log in reliably for a week or two... great time to take a huge bite out some of the bigger skills, and not have to worry about logging in until its convenient.
I remember when there was no skill queue. 24h is fine, when the game doesn't decide to log you off with your skill training paused.... (which I've only seen happen a couple times...) |

I plan ahead. I have been in the same situation of going on a trip, but I threw in a faction Frigate V and didn't think about EvE while on vacation. One month I knew I was going to be flat out at work so I positioned a cruiser V during that time. Finished the project and was flying a Tengu.
I am sure you had similiar skills or could have put yourself in position to train for similiar skills with long training times. |

I don't like the limit either. When I went on OP tour I had to trust someone to look after my accounts for six months, no skill available to me at the time took that long.
So for a longer queue: - Pros: You can easily account for when you're not going to be able to log in.
Cons: Errrrrrr?!
Also to the OP, I have an eve client on a USB stick that I use in your situation (I have the same problem atm) I go to an internet cafe and just update that client update skills etc and copy the new client into my PC directory. |

Right now I am burning through a bunch of level 4 skills. Each takes just over a day to train up, so no skills can be placed behind them. I know subversive ways to seduce me to log on tomorrow when I see them, good try CCP. Not that I mind, because I have a secret weapon: plain and simple indifference.
The trick is to just not care about training efficiency. I have, at some point, decided I just don't give a flying **** anymore about optimizing my skill plan. No more hassle with stupid implants, never wondering getting podded is worth it. Yeah I have lost hours, even days, by not logging in, but because of this I can also pretty much ignore implants because I waste more training time then those implants might save anyway.
Just stop caring. It's such a relief. |

I remember once I woke the wife up at 3:30 am with a "YESSSS!!" when Caldari Battleship V completed.
You kids and your skill Queues, When I was your age we got up at all hours of the day/night to set a skill, and we liked it :)
Be happy you have a skill queue 24hrs is a Godsend compared to setting the alarm for 3:30am just to change a skill. |

Here's a challenge for you OP: 1. Keep only one skill in your queue at any given time, no matter how long it is (only training it one level higher) 2. After the skill finishes training, then and only then, can you insert another skill to train (short <10 hour skills work best) 3. Repeat 1 and 2 for 1-2 months 4. See if you complain about the skill queue again |

heaven forbid he had to actually log in to the game in order to change things in the game. Reading my posts is like panning for gold; most it will be useless, but occasionally you'll find a nugget of gold. |

Given that people can set really long skills and then not log on anyway, I really don't see why the skill queue can't be longer than 24h, although it's not important enough for me to lobby for it. CCP makes money when the skill-timer runs, so they don't have to care. The majority of players log in regularly to play anyway.
However, OP, you should be prepared for a metric f*ckton of snide remarks from "the cool kids" when you post something like this.. |

A question, when a skill is training when your subscription runs out, does it continue training (it used to many many years ago)? If yes, do queued skills also finish training when subscription runs out?
If yes to both questions, that is THE reason that skill queue is not longer than 24 hours... |

No, it stops with the end of your subscription. That was fixed in 2009 I think.

I would like it so that you can always put a skill at the end of the queue. So you use a long skill after whatever you are training atm. And when it finishes and you forget (aren't able / too lazy / whatever) to log in you are still safe and not sorry. |

I swear if someone posted "puppies are awesome" all of you would post as fast as you could to tell the poster how much of a scrub he is and that puppies are the spawn of Satan.
The people who just login to train and then logoff are going to do that regardless of the queue length. Having it be 24 hours isn't magically making anyone play who doesn't want to. |

I don't think I have any long skillz lined up for anticipated emergencies like this. I used to have, and I kinda ought to still have at least one, but the fact is I've played for over 5 and a half years now. Back 4 years ago, I lost my ADSL connection for a week and a half and did not have a backup 3G. I was really unhappy about the missed opportunity to train.
These days, I'm much more relaxed, about it. Back a year ago I only logged on to set skillz to train, and sometimes I'd forget to log on and lose half a day, sometimes as much as two full days. Didn't bother me. Currently I log in almost daily, so I'm unlikely to miss out on queue ends, but if I did it wouldn't bother me much.
Note that I'm not saying other players are silly for worrying about such things. I think it's quite natural to feel that way when you've only played for 1-3 years, and likewise quite natural to feel the way I feel now once you've played for 4+ years.

Yes, something like 3 days after your subscription ends.
Back in 2008'ish, I used 4 non-consecutive months of not being subscribed to train Caldari Cruiser, Caldari Battleship, Battlecruisers and AWU from level 4 to 5. That was quite nice. If given the choice, though, I'd much rather have a 24 hour skill queue, than to get back the possibility of what we used to call "dark training". Having to juggle your skill queue, so that your one allowed skill level didn't finish training in the middle of the night was not fun.

Having the training queue longer than 8 hours is making life easier for people who don't want to be forced to log in to change skills. A 24 hours long training queue is pure bliss!
