Here's something I've been thinking about running low sec courier contracts...
I've never set one up myself, and have no reason to, but is it possible to create a courier contract on a really cheap item with a high collateral, watch for whoever accepts the contract and then gank them when they undock with the package to claim the collateral for yourself??

Its possible, but most people have the sense not to accept a contract with a collateral significantly of a significantly higher value than the actual item itself. ----- Proud supporter of James 315's New Order of High Sec | Shareholder and Agent -----á http://i.imgur.com/HCpHT.jpg | -áhttp://www.minerbumping.com/ |

Most people would, yes, but I didn't realise there was a way to see the item or the value of it before you actually accepted a contract and picked it up.

Yeah, some people do this. I'm not sure how they know exactly which ship they need to gank or when to expect it though. Maybe they just keep refreshing the contract until someone takes it. |

That's what I'm trying to find out - when you take a contract, you can see on the contract itself which player has issued it, but can the issuer see which player takes the contract and then just wait and watch local for them to come by, then watch station guests to see when they dock up, undock and just wait for them outside with a scram?

Be even more creative, take a look at Incursion mechanics versus low/null and figure out how you can get the collateral without the need of a gank. |

I haven't had any experience with incursion yet. I'm still a little green in New Eden, I'm afraid, and haven't been confident enough to tackle an incursion just yet. I am 12 and what is this?? |

I used to set up low sec courier contracts for the purposes of moving mins. I'd set collateral on the high side, but would also pay above average for completion. I wasn't trying to gank anyone, but it was very profitable when they failed. For some reason it also made me happy. |

I'll take a look at some point, see if I can figure out what you're talking about. I am 12 and what is this?? |

Let's say i have spent the last three years having regional buyorders for cheap crap. This means i can make literally hundreds of courier contracts with crap, with collateral in the hundreds of millions per contract ...
Damn, i need to raise my skills. Inappropriate signature removed. Spitfire |

The majority of contracts in jita local are these low sec ones.
The contract window says if the route will take you through low sec/null sec etc. So it is a bit more obvious and it'd take someone who is either greedy or stupid to read through them to fall for it. Fortunately, eve has plenty of both.
Anyway, if you persist in doing it, use an item over 1000m3 at least. That way they will use an industrial and not a cloak ship. and keep the collateral below 100 mil |

I'll try make it easier for you...
How do you know who the alt is to shoot them? You would still be looking for the original person who completed the contract. Red Frog Freight use this approach for example. You never know who is actually flying your stuff. |

Ah! I see. Yes, I do need things made easier for me, sometimes. I direct explanation like this helps, thanks - I'm autistic, and it's hard to understand "thought mapping" when I'm not on the same train of thought. I am 12 and what is this?? |
