While we do not yet officially support Windows 8, we would be interested in hearing about any problems that Windows 8 users have encountered when running EVE Online.
Ideally we would only like to hear of any issues that became a problem when players switched from another OS to Windows 8. This would mean that we can be sure that Windows 8 was the problem.
If you can post in this thread a summary of the issue and also a brief overview of your system specifications (Graphics card, driver version etc) it really would be appreciated. GM Arcade | Customer Support

My system is as follows
Asus P67 Deluxe I7 2600k 16gb Ram 2x HD6970 SSD and HDD Graphic driver is 12.11
99% likely a crossfire issue. Suggest trying with Crossfire disabled...

Confirmed issue with crossfire; severe graphical flickering and discolouration.
Also EVE was stalling on startup when running the same client installation that I was using on Windows 7. It would take 2 minutes to load unless I ran more than one instance. The Repair app seems to have fixed it, though. |

Just installed Windows 8 last week. Whenever I close the client, it has major graphic issues, the colors turn neon, mainly pink, like a spectrum of rainbow. You can hardly make out anything. I've seen some with the pink screen graphic issues from Windows 7.
I'm using a fairly brand new computer (2 months old): AlienWare Intel i3 @ 3.30 Ghz NVIDIA GeForce GT 545 8 Gb RAM Windows 8 Pro
Didn't have any problems with Windows 7 until I upgraded to Windows 8 Pro.
Please help, any suggestions? |

The stalling of the EVE client (refusing to load immediately) has started happening again without me changing the configuration of my system. It takes exactly 1 minute and 2 seconds for the client window to decide to show itself (timed with a stopwatch several times). |

This is wrong and a Standard Troll sentence. Has nothing to do with reality, which can easily be tested (install the 90 day Trial) or just read tests from pc magazines. Windows 8 is the desktop installation you get on every out-of-the-box-PC next year. No matter if tablet/touch or Desktop.
It's a normal Windows, whoever says something else obvisouly never had it installed. Don't believe the trolls, you install it, hit the Windows key and you have a regular Windows 7, just faster and more features. Clean Windows 8 install, install Eve. All works fine, no issues, I7 CPU.
Only the tiles on the start page have missing descriptions (instead of "Eve Online" they say "missing Translation"), so nothing critical, easy to fix. Windows 8 is yes a desktop OS but the base of the OS was designed for mobile devices. Check out the windows based mobile phones. Look similar hmm? yes indeed....work the same? yes indeed.
Its like a console game being ported to the PC - never gonna work quite right.
Windows 8 is going to be like Vista - a supposed step up from XP yet anyone who used Vista went back to XP and when 7 came out it, made Vista look like millennium edition. |

This is such a load of bullshit it's not even funny. I run Eve on Win 8 without any problems whatsoever. In fact, I find it to be faster and more efficient with hardware resources compared to Win 7.

Running Windows 8 on 2 devices. Having issues as follows:
Device #1: Samsung Series 7 Slate Issue: As described by a number of people here, if I alt-tab or close the client, it leaves it in a "neon zebra" state. Obviously some sort of graphical glitch/driver issue so not massively concerned as it's not my primary platform (apologies to those where it is).
Device #2: Desktop PC Intel Core i7-2600 CPU @ 3.4GHz, 8GB RAM, 64bit Issue: And here comes the more insidious issue...when I'm playing for potentially an 'extended period of time', it either seems to lose connection or simply freeze the client. I am attempting to do some more root cause analysis so hopefully can be more specific. But it almost feels like the good old memory leak days when after a period of time the game just locks up. As soon as I have something more concrete I will post a follow-up (or edit this one).
NOTE #1 - The freezing issue is not related to multiple clients, it occurs even with a single client running. |

Windows 8 Pro upgrade, running Eve exactly the same as Windows 7 (no issues, high FPS). No difference in the game what so ever using either the stock 1.1 drivers that come with the OS or the ATI legacy drivers.

I'm actually upgrading to W8 64 Pro version this weekend, any advice even the most basic one is the most welcome.
Stuff I keep: Pross: I5 3.2GHz DDR3 1600Hyperx 12GB MB: Asus P7 GC: Gigabyte 460 GTX 2G DDR5 (OC version)
PP+regular peripherals being consumable I'm not really worried about. My worries are all about how to make this 64B version exploit at best pross/mem/GC resources to make Eve work perfectly with highest resolution settings. I'm not considering the internet connexion since this one is not a problem right now and shouldn't be after upgrading but can consider about upgrading to 100mB
Opinions about what I should take a good close look at before upgrading or while upgrading? -software upgrades: AV - navigation security etc?
Thx in advance.
EDIT: I'm not actually upgrading from "x" windows version, I'm buying a full W8 pro version, thus installing in a new HD (sata 3TO 7200t/min 32Mo 6GB transfer), also keeping previous Win version in old HD while waiting for a full system stability. brb |

I have issues on one of my machines.
Sager NP2098 Laptop Windows 8 64-bit fresh install AMD Radeon 4650 4GB Ram
The game will launch but the screen is black and occasionally flashing the actual graphics. Music plays and my cursor changes to the Eve cursor. I have to kill it in task manager to get out of it.
It works fine with my Radeon 7950 on my desktop.
It also works with my Xubuntu 64-bit (with legacy driver repo) install on that laptop so, I am chalking it up to AMD Legacy drivers + Eve being to blame.
The other 3D games I have tried on Windows 8 have worked without a hitch though. I was playing Torchlight II and Dota 2 the same day I tried Eve.
If you want some more logs let me know and I'll get them tonight. |

You mix the "core" with the user interface... do your homework, read what other people here in the forum say and maybe you understand. There's a difference between "core code", Windows 8 RT and the regular Windows 8.
Back on topic: Very rarely I get graphic issues, like the textures are starting to flickering (Intel I7 CPU). I run Eve in window mode only, so ALT+TAB cannot be my issue. Wrong. The OS for Windows 8 Phones and Windows 8 PCs are not the same. They may look similar but the one used for Win8 Phone does not have the same features as those found on a Win8 Laptop. See: http://www.zdnet.com/is-windows-8-phone-confusion-good-for-microsoft-7000003777/ |

As you can see, the hardware rises above the recommended for EVE. Coding does not want to let me make that a hyperlink right now though... But anyway, that's my current PC.
Overall it's an improvement over my previous rig (which barely met - if at all - minimum specs), save for oooooone teensy glaring problem.
As soon as I get a LOT of things on screen, the client crashes and/or does not display proper module/ship information. The most recent offense has happened in a Mission: "Infiltraded Outposts" level 4. In the first room, the client froze after I shot a few angry drones, but I managed to get the client DOWN and re-opened fast enough to save my ship. Thinking it was fluke chance, I headed to the next room. Got through maybe 3 of the bazillions of frigates, crashed again. Relogged and upon entering the game a message displays that says I'm scrambled (naturally, this IS a level 4 mission) at which point I open my can of whoopass.
Now here comes the fun part: Rather than the client freezing again, it froze my ship speed and didn't physically display any scramble/webifier notifications above my shields/armor/hull like it normally does. I watched my shield tank crack and proceeded to call in my drones and initiate warp, only to find that I'm secretly scrambled and can't get out, and that my ship is going a mysterious snail's pace as well. All I could do was sit and watch my poor little Maelstrom get chewed up :(
~
So, other than an apparent connection/display/freezing/whateverthatwas issue when lots of enemies are involved, I'm not noticing many issues. For the most part the game runs smoother than before. Small engagements don't cause any problems, and I no longer encounter lag.
Hopefully this is helpful to someone somewhere, and I do hope that Windows 8 gets full support as soon as possible :) |

Change done over the weekend (Lin here, new alt), while everything else seems faster than with my previous Vista 32 version Eve often freezes, goes from sacades while shooting rats in missions (high sec) or sites (null sec) to complete freeze for several seconds (3 or 4 sometimes +) which of course means I'm out of fleets or whatever pvp situation and this is really boring.
Set all the exclusions for Eve in FW/AV and whenever I run tasks admin my pross is never used above 7 to 12% and barely 2BG of mem from the 12GB available. GC info seems normal and I have to run Eve in low settings (this sucks ass), I'm wondering if this issue has something to do with Directx or if it's the game coding it self.

However ship hud sometimes
i am also getting these issues although i think in my case the freezing issue may stem from the graphics card being overworked with 3 clients running on 2 screens, not entirely sure.
When i log into the account in space, into say a pos i get between 1-5 mins of black screen with nothing showing, total black screen, i get notifications about messages etc but nothing else is visible. When i log in into a station everything loads normally but when i undock i get the same issue as Sergeant Acht Scultz, my overview, chat, etc is all viewable but the rest of it is just black.
The interesting thing to note is that i have 3 accounts, this issue affects only one account. all 3 chars on that account however suffer from the problem i described above.
After submitting a petition i was given a potential solution which was to log into another account first then onto the one with issues. I logged into a char that was logged in a pos in a wh, loaded up fine, no issues. i then logged into another char on the account with the problems that was in the same pos in the same wh, the result was a black screen for about 3 minutes.
i was getting the undock black screen problem with the same account with windows 7 but not the logging on in space one. after upgrading to win 8 pro and in the process doing a full format, i downloaded and installed a fresh eve client. The issues still occurred straight away after undocking for the first time with win 8 pro.
I am running Win 8 Pro 64 bit on a Asus G74Sx with Intel Core I7-2630QM CPU @ 2.00 GHz 16384MB Ram DirectX 11 NVIDEA GeForce GTX 560M with 10944 MB

Had a slight problem. Not 100% that its Windows 8 related.
Would click on EVE icon on desktop, and it would open up the launcher. Would then click the 'Play' button and it would 'depress' like I actually clicked it, but nothing happened. The odd part is, the night before, I was playing EVE, running 2 accts simultaneously, the launcher just stopped functioning.
The workaround if anyone should have this issue:
Go into your CCP folder in Program files ->EVE -> bin -> EXEfile
Launches the client directly, going around the launcher. No other issues to report.
My system specs: Windows 8 64 bit - 6.2 Asus G75VW Intel Core i7 processor 2.4ghz NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660M 4gb of display memory, 2 gb dedicated, 2gb shared
Should be sufficient for our purposes here
