Edited by: Kinsy on 15/04/2005 21:45:46 Alliance A consists of 2000 members. Alliance B consists of 200 members.
Scout from Alliance A find a mining op deep in 0.0 being protected by a force of 5 BS.
<Scout> I got hostiles here. <Member 1>On my way. <Member 2>Hey i want to come! <Member 3>Our corp's based next door, half of us are available and we have 40 members <Gang leader>Hold on, we'll just scare them off! <Member 3>Ill just come and 'watch' then. <Member 2>Im seriously bored, no way am i not coming <Member 5>Well im already here and so are 10 others
Corp 6 has 40 members all of which are carebears. Half are less than 3 months old and the other half only fly BS to mine in. Corp 2 has 40 members and has been PvPing for some time.
Corp 2 declares on Corp 6. Corp 6 isnt stupid having no PvP experience and doesn't fight while it tries to get some help. Corps 3, 4 and 5 decide to help and all of a sudden Corp 2 is seriously outnumbered.
Corp 2 does its best to fight on but ends up being blobbed every time it finds 1 or 2 hostiles to fight, and ends up stopping the war.
Now i dont know about you, but both of these scenarios seem perfectly sensible to me. Noone wants to lose ships for nothing ;)
Of course, there is always the side effect of scenario 2 - some of the carebears found fighting a lot of fun and joins one of the corps that came to help. More targets 4TW, right?

Edited by: Reash on 15/04/2005 15:27:12 Good explaination and its true, i hear certain people occasionally moan that they get blobbed in a home system of an Alliance and think to myself "wtf did you expect?". Good post and it makes sense.

(( We're in a war with the CVA at the mo'. They form a huge fleet and patrol their home territory and we form fleets and go after them.
We get real fleet battles because neither side plays the ss-and-logoff game.
The lag at a gate when 15 of their ships jump into 15 of ours in Yulai, for example, can be quite horrific if you forget to turn down a few settings and to enable fullscreen mode as I did one time, but that's my stupid fault.
On the whole they have been some of the best fights I've been in and real 'fleet tactics' mean that more people feel useful. If you can fly a BB or even just a tackling frig you can be part of a fleet battle.
I usually work an EW ship and expect to come home in a pod, because that - in part - is my job. I lock down a BS so his target range is somewhere inside his ship, and his friends try to get me off him.
So much fun and beats our 0,0 'rat battles hands down.
