If I may make a suggestion?
When the pilot is shown in his pod, it seems to be full of liquid. When the top of his pod is sliced off, should the liquid not come splashing out?
If I may not, ingore what I just said ;)
Also, when Episode 1 comes along, if there is a character called 'Jar-Jar' I will have to hurt you ;)

I cannot release any models as the models are not mine to release, I didnt create them, nor do I own the copyright to them, they are the property of CCP and as such it is up to CCP to release them.

Edited by: Ezri on 25/04/2005 20:03:22 Not sure if it has been asked but could you provide a link, if possible, to the music in it. I'm a big fan of the James Horner.

Tbh, in regards to work that has been layed down on this movie, and in the regards to copyrights to CCP material, you guys might as well stop asking about releasing extract tool / models to public.
I mean the guys work for 1 year to make something unique, gotta give them some slack and let them enjoy it :P --

A very impressive technical showpiece - well done to Wildcard for stringing together something so professional. I especially like the slow-mo laser slice, and the choice of music is spot on in creating a mood that embraces both the mysterious aspects of space, as well as the tribal warfare taking place in the heavens.
There are some cinematic weaknesses however - in particular the 'lock-on' scene. The video sets itself apart by offering something far removed from the traditional dime-a-dozen combat videos, and this level of immersion is marked somewhat by the inclusion of something that is a distinct EVE GUI element - in turn taking the viewer away from its spectacular beauty, and back into an arcade shooter.
I don't think it offers an evolution or revolution in terms of EVE videos, despite being apposite as far as the corporation name is concerned. More like a Dodo - a one off that is most fascinating, but due to the sheer resources and man-hours needed, will never achieve a level of dominance. Whilst the production values will surely rub off on the more affluent EVE film-makers, the use of CGI is something that will be used by the select few.
In a way, it's almost a backwards step - Machinima (the term used for making films from game footage) sets itself apart by allowing the film-maker to have a cast, set and camera - all rolled into one. What they do with these tools varies, but it allows films to be created quickly and cheaply, with minimal resources. CGI is the direct opposite, demanding exhaustive hours and the most able of modeling programs.
It's very impressive, and certainly most enjoyable, but considering this short took 1000 hours to make (and the T1 guns indicate the time-scale), I wouldn't hold your breath for the next episode coming anytime soon...

Yeah and if you listen, you can hear a sound that to me sounds like water quick freezing. Brilant if you ask me.

Dude, it's not a cinematic weakness at all. It is a brilliant nod at the video's roots, which imo is precisely required because it is so far removed from Eve gameplay. Worked like a charm for me.

It may well be a cheeky wink at EVE players, but how many people watching it don't play EVE? The reason I find it doesn't work is because the piece is so far removed from EVE's gameplay, and therefore doesn't require a piece of the in-game HUD to articulate a point. Had it taken place inside the ship through the Head-Up Display for example, it would gel, but a giant floating targetting reticule in space - objectively - breaks the immersion seal.

For those that missed it: Evolution got the models by means of a 'spoit. ONO!!!!
Those that have the concerns about the man-hours involved in doing all this. Wildcard assures us that the initial work has been done and there's a high level of reusability with a lot of what's been created already.
I'd think that in future productions most of the focus will be in the scripts, cinematography, effects, and sound.
Wildcard never did this thing to get recognition or get into CCP or use it to promote his skills. This is a labor of love by someone that loves the idea of EVE and the people that help make that idea a reality.
We'd like to see people express themselves with similar intensity. Be involved.
Oh, and, don't start liking us, because Evolution is still "a bunch of 'sploiting pirates that perpetrate OOG attacks via lies and deceit while being led by a megalomaniac who uses his thugs for the purpose of being a bully." ;o

I kind of liked and didn't like that part. In terms of the storytelling it's a nice setup for the fight and builds a little tension. But it did feel a little incongruent with the style of the rest of the film to that point - maybe a quick cut to the podpilot showing that this is what they see through the neural interface would have put the scene with the targetting reticle into context for people who don't know Eve.

No! Not fair. Just I was thinking of having a bit of fun using the old movie-making program with some Fraps footage and then I see this! Why would I even bother trying to do so when there is quality such as this?
