I stumbled across this online while interacting with the public and it asks the question: Is anything actually happening on these forums?
My studies have indicated a lot of people are happy that there is a lot of activity on these boards indicating a general "good-health" feel to the EVE-O-OOPE forums.
The expectation that a lot is already happening is higher than the expected boredom and generally people are prepared to wave the flag and participate.
It would appear that at the fringe of the expected activity there is a blemish, but it is easily overlooked. Alongside the infrequent typo.
What are your thoughts?

No.
For one, I'm rather tired of all the avatar threads in here.
A few years ago this was a pretty interesting forum with a lot of threads getting my attention, and maybe even a post or two. These days most threads strike me as rubbish (no offence) and all I can think is "it was better in the old days..."
Don't know if the quality really has gone down or if it's just me not being interested in what other people post, but I do know that I've become rather picky about which threads are worthy of my time.
One thing that really bugs me are OPs where neither the thread title nor the mouse-over summary say what the thread is about (also, when posting links, give it a name and not just the URL).
Also, I wish misplaced threads from other forums (usually GD) would be moved elsewhere, or at the very least tagged as moved so I could just ignore them.
Basically, if something isn't important enough for you to post it in the right place with a good description, it's probably not important enough for me to read either.

This
Yeah it is really annoying that mods use this forum as the dumping ground for trash threads. Aside from all the trash this is one of the more interesting forums.
Just lock them and let them die instead of dumping the general discussion trash here kthanxbye

I think people are getting a bit sick of the same old subjects and arguments.
For example, it's been 9 years of threads about reducing hisec income and increasing 0.0 income. No matter how many times CCP follows their demands, a new thread about it is made the next day.

Bane: That we are, but this thread is mostly about OOPE, not GD. Personally, I only go into GD when something feels different or wrong about eve (be it lag, weird features or things like that).
OOPE has always been that nice, relaxed pub where you can just hang out with other like-minded individuals and not be bothered by politics and other boring shite. I'm sad to say, that feeling is gone. Not so much because of politics, but the loud youngsters annoying the hell out of me.
Maybe I'm succumbing to nostalgia here, but OOPE used to be about polite, good-natured discourse about anything and everything that might be of interest to the discerning capsuleer. Now, >90% of the stuff I see I label as spam, the sense of being part of a community well and truly gone. |

I see your point.
Without trying to put a smile out by saying I think a solution would be to nerf low-sec, general discussion is generally about the status quo, although it would have been interesting to find out which transactions had occured in null-sec via GD. Like a running column of system changes taken from Dotlan.
I tend to post in the Fiction forum (not IGS) and even less people want to show up. Most know the same arguments / discussion / topics but refuse to appear in that context, especially for a second time. |

Yeah, Betteridge's law sums up GD pretty well. Not really at liberty to discuss lowsec due to my stance on keeping OOPE OOPE though.
Fiction sounds interesting though... I've seen it but never really seen it. Maybe I can get my forum fix there without having to roleplay or discuss game mechanics... |

It does have the same forum-fu and backdated analysis but its definately a general discussion of what could have been or could be in EVE. |

yup.
this is one of the reasons. not the highsec per s+¬; but the same old same old repetitious threads.
I personally despise threads that contain a link to something and the word 'discuss!' directly after it...I wonder whether the multilingual threads have anything like this and how they handle them.

Btw, did you manage to book a seat at Braben's table or were they sold out before you got back there?

Sadly it appears that OOPE now means "dump your **** here; it's not like anything that happens outside of EVE is important anyway. Actual thread content optional".
700 plus page threadnoughts of nothingness, but any attempt to actually discuss anything real happening OUT OF THE ******* POD gets leapt on by the mods who miraculously still seem to be asleep at the switch when it comes to locking the "LIKE ME LIKE ME, PLEASE LIKE ME" threads. Politics bad, vacuous twattery good it appears.
Shame; I quite liked OOPE once but it's largely a waste of time these days. One original thought is worth a thousand mindless quotings - Diogenes. |

Page 11 Synopsis:
General Discussion - 10 days ago. OOPE - 2 weeks ago. Fiction - A Year.
Eventually there will be only one forum, and it will be called 'announcement space alpha' in it, the reply button will be replaced with "you do not have privileges" and 16 people will rotate the conversation topics to the nth term, repeating all realistic counter-points individually - defeating themelves.

+1 Especially if the link leads to a slow-loading, possibly good or possibly not Youtube thing. But if the surprise element of the anonymous link is a part of the joke, that's OK. If you do it rite. OOPE's been a little boring lately, but it's still always my first stop. Healthier than GD I'd say. GD and it's "nerf this" or "buff that," "carebears vs. tear collectors," patch whine threads, over and over. Half of the people responding to the OP have nothing to say but "no, you're wrong." I'll take the tripe and goofy b.s. people post here over that stuff. |
