Edited by: Chimp Condor on 23/04/2005 17:33:08 Hi everyoneātotal n00b hereā
I have been playing the free trial and have really liked the game so far. I have decided to stay and create my main character for the long haul, but I have a few questions.
I would like to create a character that is a trader/fighter hybrid. Think of a Han Solo type (from the first Star Wars) who could smuggle anything anywhere and could also shoot his way out of trouble if he had too. Is this realistic or would it take too much time and money to train both sets of skills? Would such a character suffer from being a jack of all trades master of none, or could he be made viable?
Is there a particular a race and starting set of attributes that would be good for a trader/fighter hybrid?
Thanks

No not troublesome at all. With any character you will need a good mix of pure fighting skills and the necessary support skills, particularly Engineering, Electronics and Navigation.
The majority of the skills have Perception as the prime requisite and second-most would be Intelligence. Aiming for high values for these stats and minimizing Charisma is your best bet. Memory appears to be slightly more useful than Willpower if you want to fine-tune to that extent.
It really depends on how much of a "power gamer" you are. This character's Memory is the highest stat and I'm happy with that. EVE skilling is all about time in the game and in the end it's the fun you have playing that counts not the numbers on the stat sheet.
Welcome aboard!

Yes, you can definitely play the Han Solo type. I do.
Just remember what Han spent most of his time doing: running away.
Today I only got shot at 4 times. It's exhilerating wondering whether you are going to reach the gate before the torpedoes reach you.
All I need now is a wookie co-pilot. _____________________________________________ I am motivated by various things, mostly ISK. |

Yes this is possible, but your better off having one ship for fighting and one ship for trading. There are a few ships like the Executor that is both, it has bonus to guns and bonus to cargo space, however its got its problems.
If you want cargo, your going to be slow, if you fit things in your ship to overcome the slowness then your not effective in fighting and vise versa..
Once you get some money, you can trade in stuff that doesnt take 50,000 qty to make a profit, like guns and ship equipment. Once your to that level, you can start using smaller trading ships that dont need so much cargo room.
