So i have a 4890 Ati card that now gone **** up with any game (loads of blocks over games , crashes then reboots) looks like vram is gone.
So as i cant afford a top of the line graphics card any more I can have a:
PNY GT 640 2GB PNY 650GTX 1GB ASUS NVIDA GT630 2GB
Sapphire HD6670 2GB
I want to be able to run 2 clients off this card.
Any help would be great, thanks.

I'm biased towards Nvidia, but it's not without good reason. They make good stuff.
Oh, and in before some guy shows up to say it's not as simple as buying a graphics card to improve graphics, then goes on to make it seem the CPU is more important. The CPU will play a role of course, but the video card is the most important. "It's no use crying over spilt milk, because all the forces of the universe were bent on spilling it." ~William Maugham |

I have to ask why you are so limited in your selection of cards? ..but then I haven't checked them out yet, aside from the initial observation that the Nvidia ones are somewhat inferior to what I would expect. zubzubzubzubzubzubzubzub |

What I meant, is there are plenty of alternatives, (usually better), in the same price range. I sort of assumed you were looking at a local PC store that focused primarily on service and just happened to have some stock on the shelf. zubzubzubzubzubzubzubzub |

Just checked Tom's hardware, and they're saying the Radeon HD 7750 is much better than the 640 and its in the same price range, so you may want to add that to your list of potentials. I would go with GTX 650.
When I turn everything off, I have ran 2 clients on nVidia 8400. So running two clients is not a big deal. Life is short and dinner time is chancy Eat dessert first! |

Part of the problem I have with these cards, is the lack of a proper heat shroud. Basically, these things will just suck up hot air and vent hotter air inside your PC. A proper heat shroud exhausts that air out the back of your PC. The plus side is the hot air is drawn in from a relatively cool, (expected to be anyway), location in your PC, and the card shouldn't get too hot.
Out of these, I'd probably bet on the PNY GTX 650, but you might want to consider shopping online depending on your location. US or Canada: newegg.com/.ca or ncix.com are good and pricing is the same or better than locally in most cases. Shipping is usually fast and almost consistently reliable too. There are others, but this may not even be useful to you. zubzubzubzubzubzubzubzub |

I'd definately consider ordering online. Even with shipping it may cost less than what you pay at the store.
A lot more options that way aswell.
That said, currently i'd say NVidia cards are the better option for EVE. Since CCP and NVidia work somewhat closely together on some tech issues, AMD cards will always be a bit behind regardless of how good they are. |

For just 2 EVE instances, 1 GB should be more than sufficient for a single screen alt-tabbing between them, but if you run two fullHD screens with one of them on each, then getting a card with 2GB on it might be a tad bit better vs the same model but just 1 GB on it, but not radically better. So, raw performance should trump the 1 vs 2 GB choice. Also, as far as cooling goes, rather than bothering with where the card vents out, you should care more about wattage instead (i.e. generation rather than dissipation).
Passmark ratings (average performance of various cards of that make) plus stock version TDP in Watts (factory-overclocked will use up more, some stock versions will actually use a bit less most of the time), sorted by "pr" (passmark ratings) :
550ti ??GB - 1909 pr, 116 W PNY 650GTX 1GB - 1882 pr, 64 W PNY GT 640 2GB - 1363 pr, 50-75 W Sapphire HD6670 2GB - 1043 pr, 66 W ASUS NVIDA GT630 2GB - 694 pr, 50-65 W
All in all, the 550Ti has the best performance, but the 650 has nearly the same performance at a drastically lower power consumption, while the rest of the cards are noticeably slower.
Assuming the 550Ti is a 1GB version, I would say the 650 would be the best choice out of all those named, but the 550Ti is the second best overall (minus points for power usage, some plus points for performance). If the 550Ti is a 2GB version, it's probably better even with the extra power usage. http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/User:Akita_T T2 BPO poll: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=114789 Buying this: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=147098 |
