I've been in a few since starting eve a few months ago and they all say 'new pilot friendly' and I think there needs to be a rating system given to corps by players.. Nothing bugs me more than all of them saying new player friendly and they end up being just slightly less clueless than me. A rating system by catagory might be of use.....or maybe there is one I dunno. I'm near 1 mil sp just mining and occasionally doing a lvl 1 mission. Cheers |

The problem with a rating system is that it would get abused.
Dont like a corp? drop his rating down the tube by having all your corp members rate it badly.
Eve uni would have its rating bombed on the first day by test and goons, just for fun.
Now sure, you could code in blocks on many people from one corp downvoting another, but thats a dirty hack, because what if one corp is created from the refugees of another, and that corp really was ****?
In the end, if would get abused so badly that CCP would end up chasing their tail trying to stop the abuse, and the rating system would be less then worthless to new players, because it wouldn't reflect the reality of a corp.
It can be hard to find a good corp, but stick at it man, you'll find one eventually. Ishtar Starfire: As a pure caldari pilot i feel that with the deployment of the new tier 3 battlecruisers you have given an unfair advantage to everyone except caldari pilots. an example would be like giving a fat kid a whole cake while the skinny kid has to watch and get nothing.

^ This
And people can do exactly the opposite too.
The CEO can make endless amounts of trial alts and boosts his rating higher then it should actually be.
Another example where Malcanis' Law is in place:
Quote:Any proposal justified on the basis that "it will benefit new players" is invariably to the greater advantage of older, richer players.
The idea is good, it will just don't work and will be abused heavily.
EDIT:
Instead, do your research before joining any corporation. Find out how active they are, how much knowledge they have (if you are looking for a training corp), what timezone they live in, what do they do, etc, etc.
Great guide about that is here: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=16943&find=unread Inject your skillbook before you leave the station. True, and this would be absolutely in accordance with the spirit of Eve.
All it truly needs is a disclaimer explaining exactly that (and which no one would read anyway). Forum-unbanned since 2011.10.20. |

Also, they may be using the "new pilot friendly" phrase as a way to indicate that they don't have 15m skillpoints as a prerequisite to join; there are some advanced corps out there. In any case, the focus of the corp may not be to help newbies, it's just they aren't discriminating against newbies joining.
What you can do is, instead of outright joining, spend some time talking to them and ask your newbie questions, as well as questions about the corp, see how they answer. That way you can rate them before joining them.
For newbie questions, the NPC corp channel (even if you aren't in the newbie corp anymore), or these forums, are probably your best bet. For ISK donations, sometimes people donate if your questions are particularly cute, but don't beg, and don't expect it. You can make a few million, get several ships, and a slew of skills, by doing the missions for the 5 profession agents at the start. |

You're right, it's hard to find a newbie-friendly corp, but don't give up! What sort of corp are you looking for (what do you want to do / expect from your corp)? From your post it appears that you expect a "new player friendly" corp to be populated with folks who are not new players. Anyone else see the problem in this? |

"New player friendly" does not always mean that they are a training corp or that you can expect them to hold your hand. In most cases you get out of EVE what you put in. All the knowledge that you need to thrive is out there on the web, it is just a matter of looking for it and digesting it. That is admittedly easier if you have experienced corpmates to answer your questions. If you want to PvP, my corp can teach you, provided that you are willing to bear with us a bit as we get through some initial growing pains (we are just starting up but have a good crew). If PvP isn't your thing, or if you aren't sure, I'd recommend EVE University. There are lots of good organizations out there, the challenge is finding one that works for you. |

4 Things you want in a corp:
1. Clear mission/goal statement: "We do everything" means lack of direction ie a bunch of people doing things solo. 2. Voice coms: Eve may have a built in voice client but up till now people usually use vent or TS3. Its shows a willingness to invest in corp infastructure 3. Forums: Powerful tool for organization, and once again we have these tools on the forums for eve but not untill recent history, if your corp has forums make sure they use them often. 4. Website: Even if its one page it becomes the business card/flyer for your corp, its forward facing, and should be updated often. (5). Killboard, if its a pvp group make sure the killboard is easily accesible and up to date, it should preferably be more then just the vanilla battleclinnic killboard.
All of these things should help you whittle down corps that are on the move from, just random groups of new players that decided to just ban together because they could or had nothing better to do. Noir. and Noir Academy are recruiting apply at www.noirmercs.comI Noir Academy: 60 days old must be able to fly at least one tech II frigate. I Noir. Recruits: 4:1 k/d ratio and can fly tech II cruisers. |

As a fellow noob who has experienced the same kinda reception and interaction i can only say is trial and error. Whatever your psychological / emotional needs are will determine what you need from your corp in conjunction with how much you expect / need from them. Would reccomend trying a few and seeing what "fits" for you and be ready for your perception to change as such. If your like me (god forbid) you will change your mind and focus repeatedly as you become more capable in the game and as you experience more of the game. Happy hunting and enjoy the game . It is just a game....isnt it ??

Well thing is this: its so damn easy to start a corporation in this game. All you need is one skill trained one level and about 1.6 mil isk. and you have your own corporation.
Its a lot different thing to actually run a good corporation. Not too many of those arround. Sometimes i have wondered if i could do it. Those few times i have taken over some corporation as result of war or something. Seems people have been happy with how i do things. Yet i have really newer run a corporation in long run this game makes bossible...
Dont be afraid to shop arround a little when looking for a good corporation, if you join one and its turns out to be bad, you can always leave to something better...
