While reading the latest thread concerning Walking in Stations and its deregulation to a potentially future avenue of programming, often I see the phrase that without it, Eve will not be "the complete sci-fi simulator (or simulation)". Now I have nothing against avatar game play as long as it has some gaming aspects involved. CCP's move towards having avatars running exploration sites I was quite enthused. In an older station thread I mentioned that a whole new line of skills for personal combat and defense could be added, along with espionage and sabotage actions. And with these ideas and suggestions, I (attempted to) look at the whole picture not as how it could personally benefit me, but the whole game.
I can understand how players can not relate to just a spaceship and need an avatar to relate. Yet I can not see how that without avatar gaming, Eve will not be complete. Perhaps I am biased since I have made other suggestions over the years, but to have "the complete sci-fi simulator", isn't the game missing so many little things?
The Universe - granted our gaming time has been but a micro slice of time, but everything is stagnant. Of all the stars and systems we can explore, not one star has occasionally flared up to knock out communications (and thus blank out local) for a while? Or have a cosmic event with a star going super nova and destroying the whole system? No casual passing comets, much less random bursts of various radiations to disrupt life?
Security and systems - while reading a thread about lemonade runs in Rancer, another thought crossed my mind: how come a system's security never changes? If enough negative security players kill enough positive security players in a period of time, then why doesn't the systems drop a point? Granted there would have to be guidelines and rules set in place, along with leaving certain initial system's beginnings in place (such as dropping enough status does not suddenly spawn null sec asteroids), security should be dynamic instead of stagnant. Or have the Empire owner attempt to keep the security by sending fleets. Of course, now the option to ruin one Empire's faction may bring the attention of its opposing counterpart and the thoughts of owning a system within their enemy's area of control could prompt them to action. Of course, players may now have to deal with two opposing Empires within one system...
Exploring new systems and building star gates - I remember offering this idea a while back that long term players could gain high ended skills to search out, travel, and build star gates to newly found systems. All the various skills required, time consumed, and money spent to build a linked gate in hopes of plundering the riches of a new system - assuming that one could be found. This was not to be a weekend ordeal for a handful of players, but a good year plus of real time on the backs of a whole corporation of players. Add the failures of finding nothing to the loss from other players seeking to hinder the work, a new form of conflict is born.
Politics and planets - my friend became interested in Eve when she saw that she could have the chance to build and rule a planet to extract its sources. The video showed that she could be a benevolent ruler instead of a dictator and possibly build a Sim City like base on a planet. Now while she does not mind the version of planetary interaction currently in game, the potential for so much more on a life bearing planet could be elaborated upon. Where are the politics in the game except between player run corporations? What if a player had the option to cherish and grow upon a planet or the opposite to plunder and send one into desolation? I could see skills and slider bars affect a planet and the people upon it to be for or against your rule. Let's go one step further - all these Empire and Pirate factions: why can't a player push a candidate to run (or overthrow in a coup) a government and take over? As NPCs, they are never proactive but always reactive to pod pilots' whims. As a walking god, I could mess up the Caldari State just as bad as that turkey Tibus Heath! And if I was in charge, my (gaming) life would change since now I would have to deal with border conflicts and internal strife. Perhaps the NPCs could react to my actions as "living entities": attacking Gallente space would be seen as a good, but attacking Amarrian space would have many of the armada questioning (and possibly going against) my authority!
Clones and cloning bays - a while back I posted an idea to have planetary materials be the basis for creating a zombie clone so a player could "cut down" his or her total skill points to go joy riding in frigates and cruisers for some player versus player combat action. Besides pushing the usage of many of the ~worthless~ planetary goods, the clone and cloning process would shift from being a NPC controlled action to being in the players' hands (or body). The same with direct access to a cloning bay - being careless with your current body might not cross your mind; but being careless with your future clone might find yourself in limbo for a spell when your enemy destroys your future self.
Again, while others want "the complete sci-fi simulation" in terms of avatar gaming, I want the same but with a broader brush stroke. And these are ideas of the top of my head - players could easily create more in hopes of truly fleshing out this gaming universe to be the best it can be. Of course there will be those that oppose all but ship to ship combat, but alas, you can not please everyone.

I've had the exactly the same ideas except the politics on planets, which would be a nice addition to PI.
What about further down the line? We have an MMOFPS (DUST) integrated into the EVE universe but what about other genres? We could even have some sort of MMO Racer where people race in stations for ISK. Also a Second Life style WIS game would add alot of real players where we instead have npc's. |

CCPs track record is pretty crap when adding things. I really don't think the CEO of ccp has the direction to compete against other mmos similar to eve online. If half the player subs drop because of the blatant greedy crap going on during the monicalgate what makes you think they could ever pull something like that off. they completely failed WIS. |

Nice read, I think it stated that you would like to see Eve become a total Sci-Fi game.
I'm all for it.
The only problem I see is it will take a long time since CCP wants to grow quickly in all dirrections resulting in hurting themselves. Guess when I'm on my deathbed and leave my character in a will to my grandson, then the Eve Universe will be like that.
Oh by the way, hello EVE. (back from a 4 month unplanned vacation)

Let me put it this way: i got all of my friends to try this game years ago, and every one of them was surprised you can dock at stations but not walk around inside them. They didn't mention wanting to use the planets to manufacture things or anything else, it was all about being 'stuck in your ship'. It was a deal breaker for them, and none made it past the trial period.
To someone who is used to how EVE is, that sort of thing is overlooked after awhile, but to the new player or anyone on the outside looking in, it just feels like that should be a natural part of the game.
And there are also lots of long term players who are used to how EVE is and lurv spaceships, yet still see the lack of any real station content as a gaping hole in the game. We've been waiting a long time for it to be filled, and been disappointed more times than i can remember.
