So the past few days my brother and I have noticed a lot of newbies mining around the belts in our area, and they always are using the most absurd sets of ships.
If I had a dollar for every Thrasher I've seen hauling ore.. I'd.. I don't even know where to continue this train of thought, but it got me thinking about something.
Right now there's a skill in the game ORE Industrial that's only used for the Noctis, and there's a HUGE gap between "industrial for ore hauling" and Orca. Then the Orca isn't great for hauling ore itself because upon jumping it breaks gang-links and anyone outside of the range bonuses lose their cycles.
So what if we expanded the role of ORE Industrial to include actual industrial-class ships that move only ore? Newbie players could have easy access to them (ORE Industrial only requires Spaceship Command III), they'd be great for "park and load up" type operations where you have one person running the ore to station and the rest mining, they'd be easier to get to than an Orca (while not providing the amazing gang link bonuses they do), and are better for smaller operations where an Orca isn't effective (2-4 people).
Here was the concepts I laid out today when crunching numbers.
Formica Ore Hold: 7,500 m3 Each level of ORE Industrial +5% bonus to ore hold capacity per level. +5% bonus to velocity per level. Requires ORE Industrial I
Colossus Ore Hold: 25,000 m3 Each level of ORE Industrial +5% bonus to ore hold capacity per level. +25% bonus to tractor beam range per level. Requires ORE Industrial III
Atlas Ore Hold: 50,000 m3 Each level of ORE Industrial +5% bonus to ore hold capacity per level. +5% bonus to shield resistances per level. Requires ORE Industrial V
The Formica fits a smaller, easier access role. Its better than Industrials from other sides at early tiers when providing raw "load and dump" style dump truck usage for newbie miners. One miner can then focus on mining specifically, while the other drops it at station when full. The bonus velocity makes it easier to move to the station faster and improves return rates, as well as making it viable for 'hit and run' on valuable ores in dangerous areas.
The Colossus is a bit bigger, and has higher tractor beam range modifiers, meaning its better for slightly larger operations with more people. I went with a 25k hold (to match a retriever) since I figured the time it takes to fill a retriever was solid for a multi-person operation to haul back and forth.
The Atlas is the largest, its modifier is for shield resistances which allow it to carry a heavier tank, so its more solid for large-scale operations where you may want to load up a ship in dangerous territory then GTFO when things get problematic, or if you want to haul a lot of ore through multiple dangerous systems.
Opinions, feedback, anything is welcome. |

Totally up for more ships in the ORE Industrial tree, (as suggested in my own thread - please see my SIG.)
But I dont see a use for the 'Formica'. A standard industrial would out perform it.
The other two, not bad. I would increase the load though, 30k m3 base and 60km3 base respectively, (this way, at level 5, they can carry a full load from one/two maxed out Mackinaws.) The colosus could probably use a velocity increae for the tractors as well as range. The Atlas's resist bonus should probably be reseved for a T2 version, maybe hold off on that. MODULAR DRONES

Should note the Formica is supposed to have an Agility bonus not a Velocity, in the other thread someone suggested a warp strength bonus but I'm unsure about it (I don't mess with much in that area to provide adequate feedback). |

Given that the ORE Frigate has a 5000m3 ore hold, I still dont see a need for the smaller hauler. MODULAR DRONES

I didn't realize it had that large of a hold, and I can agree with that now. |

Lost somewhere in my W-ORE ships thread is a bit about specialist containers.
Ore Container - holds 2.6 times its volume in raw ore, gas and ice. PI Container - Holds 1.5 times its volume in PI materials.
I just had thought a thought about combining your haulers with them. What if the ORE haulers were the only ones who could use these containers? MODULAR DRONES
