Ok, question... for years people say... Don't mount different weapons... ok... well some ships don't work that way... and peoples say... they suck that is why... don't use it.
Beyond this wonderful insight, I wanted a bit more info...
Why does CCP put split weapons into ships, then only buff one set? this seems to be a disadvantage to that ship... say a min 4/4 with bonus to Proj, v. Amarr with say 8/2 with bonus to lasers (temp v apoc) ... why and to what purpose and is there any advantage at all?
how is this best used? Look at all the Macks in local...impressive... very impressive... I see you have fashioned a new exhumer... much like you father's... your skills as a miner are now complete...indeed you are powerful as CCP Devs have foreseen... |

There is no advantage, in theory these ships (like the Typhoon for example) should have a 7.5%lvl damage bonus to missiles and guns plus a second bonus. In reality some, like the Typhoon have just a 5%/lvl bonus and no second bonus at all.
Others like the Rupture, Tempest or Hurricane have damage boni (or even double damage boni) to mitigate the smaller number of weapon hardpoints and use the spare highslots for utiltiy (mostly neutralizers).
Sadly CCP seems to intend to remove the splitweapon-feature instead of fixing it. |

Well the didn't get rid of it - it's on the stabber and the tempest to name a couple on the new server, and I am wondering why this is... it does seem to nerf the ship...over ships with single mode of weapons/bonus.
I wonder if Fozzie doesn't think this an issue? - one of my fav ships the Apoc has two mounts for missiles... and the new mega model still has the 7/1 split as well... I don't really know what to make of it.
The stabber can mount 5/2 with 6 HS... I tested the idea of a anti-frigate with say rockets on a 425mm and it doesn't really work... HAMs add in some dmg but again it seems a fail fit... neuts seem to be an issue due to simply the fact of lack of range over ships that have that role... like putting ECM or something on a non-bonues ship and expecting it to do something useful... which i doesn't...
It's a shame in a way that the whole bonuse system wasn't changed to be modular also... you pick a weapons system and then that system has a pre-set bonus on that hull... like a drop menu...and works like a rig... where you buy it and install it, but it's changeable on distruction of the former bonus set...
So lets say you have a 5% to turrets ROF... you buy that "rig" and install it on your hull, and the non-bonus hul now has a 5% to say projectiles ROF [Large] on your Apoc, but doesn't have a laser one, though you could buy that and rip out the prior... andthen the idea being you could mix and match, but the match would be covered like rigs with compatability limits/calibration... so youcouldn't do unbalanced things... then balancing could be done with the options to rig for bonuse to ships rather than fixed one... oh well... it's a dream I have. Look at all the Macks in local...impressive... very impressive... I see you have fashioned a new exhumer... much like you father's... your skills as a miner are now complete...indeed you are powerful as CCP Devs have foreseen... |

Noun bonus (plural bonuses) Something extra that is good. An extra sum given as a premium, e.g. to an employee. The employee of the week receives a bonus for his excellent work. (uncountable, basketball) One or more free throws awarded to a team when the opposing team has accumulated enough fouls.

I love split weapon ships and I really think it is a pity that CCP provides only so few of them. As far as I remember the only "real" split weapon ships are Scythe Fleet Issue, Huginn, Typhoon, Loki (with proper subsystems). With real I mean they base on three weapon types: Turret, Missiles, Drones. I am still missing a frigate capable of being used a split weapon platform.
Why are split weapon ships so cool?
- They usually have a higher out-of -the box damage than other platforms if no damage mods are used. So if you want to go really tanky or speedy, then you can safe your slots for this and still have good damage. However, improving damage by mods is not efficient on these platforms.
- Having different weapon types makes it much harder to mitigage your damage. E.g. if you have AC + Heavy Missiles + Drones, then you can apply 2/3 of damage from 0 to 50 km. With a peak damage at 3-7 km. This is great and gives you a lot of flexibility for fighting.
- Who said you have to use all the slots for weapons? It is common to use only Turrents or only Missiles on such platforms and dedicate the other high slots for e.g. probe launcher, salvager, remote repper, tractor beam (in case of PVE) or Nos/Neutr or Smart Bombs in case of PVP.
In short, split weapon platforms provide a great flexibility which also makes them very hard to predict for your enemy. You either love or hate them. |

The only ship out of those that really could claim to have drones as a main system is the phoon with it's 125mb bandwidth. The rest of them...not so much.
Also, all of the gal drone boats except the myrm have split bonuses, as well as guristas ships.
Triple rep Myrms are like what you'd get if you strapped a beehive to Robocop. |

It is, however, your fault that you fail to employ the language correctly. Bumping, leave it alone. |
