Still quite noob in pvp, was I roaming belts in low sec with my Vexor when I met the guy 70km away. He was in an Ishkur. I thought at first that if a frigate can be a pain for a cruiser, a T2 one would be even worse, but lately *any* ship has been a pain to me, so I went for it, just waiting to see how I was going to loose my ship, yet again.
Target locked and let my drones go. They said 'hi' when passing next to his drones heading my ship. I opened fire with my long range artillery cannons, and started dealing some damage. All drones engaged each other-¦s ships, and as soon as they reached my armor, I switched my repper on. Finally it happened: the ishkur approached so that my artillery was mostly useless, but here is where my real weapon came to life: one medium and two small neutralizers. Maybe two or three seconds later, the guy seemed to stand still, and popped.
I couldn-¦t believe I won with the tactic I was actually aiming for when I fitted my ship: let them approach to avoid my long range artillery so that I could drain them. I have to say that in the conversation that followed, the guy told me that he only approached because he fitted blasters, not to avoid my artillery.
Even less could I believe when in the next roam I found a rifter. Same scenario: long range firing. This time It seemed that the guy was not approaching, but some seconds after my long ranges were firing, he came to me. Only a few seconds later he popped. 2 kills. So much time and suddenly, today, 2 kills.
Too bad the guy in the rifter took a Rupture while I was collecting the cargo, and waited for me after the gate. He destroyed my vexor. And took the revenge.
This has been the most fun day I-¦ve had in EVE. I have probably said lots of "noob" things in this post, because I probably am, but the fact is that I am learning, and I will get better, step by step.
Sorry for the long post.

+1 for going out solo PvPing, it's the most fun you can have in this game, and +1 for the BR. Stick at it and eventually you'll get pretty good. Commanding Officer of the Treacle Tart Brigade SLAPD Director |

To be honest, most people don't take the time to 'check out what you're shooting them with' and then decide from there - while this can happen with station games/when people are deciding if to engage in borderline situations, in general combat they will seek to close to their optimum combat distance regardless of what you're fitting. (though optimum can of course vary depending on what you're fitting *if* their weapon system gives them a choice of engagement range, but frigs are rarely this flexible)
Any frigate, t1 or t2, versus a vexor is gonna have an interesting time of it, so your primary concern is getting them to try to engage up close in the first place. This is actually a situation where your arty can help - people won't think 'hey he's got arty I should close', but rather 'hey he fit arty to a vexor he's a noob trololol I can take him'. Other options include sitting in belts with mining drones out, ratting and pretending not to notice them when they land, etc, all of which become much much less effective as you get an actual killboard record.
In short, you've found out nuets are sexy, you can kill frigs easily if you get them to engage, keep up the good work, nice attitude, etc. etc. |

This sounds exciting and from the approach you are taking I am pretty sure that you will have not only a lot of fun but also a lot of success in your future. Especially that you had a plan and were thinking about a strategy is good.

Nice job.
I treated a brand new 1 week old Minmatar Militia pilot to his first PVP experience today.
I found him at a Militia Plex and warped to it in my Firetail. I locked him and scrammed him, but he didn't react. Turns out he was AFK.
I waited before I shot. Figured I'd give the new guy a chance to see his ship blow up at the least, right?
He started blinking red. He was barely scratching my shields on an armor setup - i lit him up, put him into 0% armor then stopped shooting for a bit to see him rep it back up. I was toying with him a bit, but didn't want to make him too comfortable. I shot 1 (ONE) of my guns at him while he was in 50% armor and he popped. I felt bad breaking my toy I was playing with
I sent him some ISK and a PVP guide.
Plenty of other new pilots out there, keep at it. :) NOSTRO AURUM NON EST AURUM VULGI |

Good day, Stahl Rise:
Congrats on taking the extremely important first step -- the willingness to engage; it was the main reason I wrote http://factionalwarfare.info/1565/pvp-are-you-willing-to-engage/ because there are those who have yet to take the step you've taken.
The neuts are always a good idea on cruiser on up when you can do them; but don't count on them to be full proof.
http://eve.battleclinic.com/killboard/killmail.php?id=14480228 -- the Rupture had a medium and small neut, and while Suleiman Shouaa had to manage his cap like crazy, he still won.
So I would recommend thinking ac vs. arty; but that's my own opinion / experience.
Enough on that... in the end it is still great job on being willing to engage!
Thank you.
