I plan to follow a career in mining/hauling and manufacture and thought courier missions would be a good low skill investment start .
I want to keep my standings positive across all four Empire factions , but have run into a problem : 4 of the 5 storyline missions offered by my distribution storyline agent has been identical : Amarrian Tyrants .
I looked it up in EVE-Survival and according to a comment there :
" I destroyed just the scout and suffered -2.4% for ship kill and -.2043% derived modification. Derived modifications also were applied to Caldari (-0.0828%), Mordu's Legion (-0.1372%), Khanid (-0.2043%), the syndicate (-0.254%), Ammatar Mandate (-0.3031%), Serpentis (-0.294%), and Angels (-0.3644%).
On the plus side I only got 0.4179% from Minmatar for mission completion, and derived modifications for Galente (0.3226%), ORE (0.2704%), SSoE (0.2704%), Thucker (0.2043%), The Society (0.1372%), Jove (0.1033%), and Interbus (0.0862%).
We normally don't type in derived modifications, I do this to make the point that no matter how you look at it, this mission is overall a standing loss if you are trying to keep the factions balanced because the -2.4% outweighs the rest of it, including the minmatar mission completion standing gain " .
If this is true , why would anyone do this mission ? Why make it available to distribution story agents , where most players (I think) mission when they specifically want to avoid faction kills ?
My standings towards my normal distribution agent is now at 8.30 but my Minmatar standings are still 0.00 ...

Storyline agents are different from your normal agents. At risk of stating the obvious, they fall under the "storyline" category. I can understand the expectation of doing non-combat (regular) missions to get non-combat storyline mission ... in practice however, prepare to be disappointed. The pool of random storyline missions are not differentiated to match the type of regular missions for that set. I sometimes wish this was so, after the upteenth "Materials for War Preparation" which gets on your nerves when you're actually looking for combat storyline missions.
Any dev paying attention, pls consider some sort of matching algorithm to auto-segregate the storyline mission handed out based on last 16 regular mission type.
For now, just suck it up. Also be prepared to wait 10 years or more ... no joke. |

Yeah, what he said.
Also I think it was stated back with the 'Agents Made Easy' expansion that the Storyline Agent's mission pool isn't very large and those agents would continue to give out all types of missions.
However, I wouldn't doubt that CCP with their twisted sense of humor has written the code to give players the opposite type of Storyline mission compared to the type of regular missions previously completed, or something like that.

Thank you both for the replies .
I don't mind the occasional kill objectives I get , usually as part of the 5 piece missions . I believe every capsuleer in New Eden should be at least moderately capable of combat . It was this particular agent's obsession with that faction kill mission that was getting to me
In any event , she seems to have relented (for now) and gave me 2 courier storylines . |

Just wanted to point out a fast way to gain positive standings with the 4 main Factions. For a mining/hauling manufacturing career, completing the low level agents should be enough to get you positive.
