Looking for some clarification on the NPC AI changes.
The patchnotes simply state : " Sleeper AI has been added to mission and belt NPCs. "
- If I were to enter someone's mission/belt and never make a hostile act toward the NPCs, would they switch to me?
- If so, why would they identify me as a larger threat than the ship currently killing them?
- Will the new salvage drones be targeted the same as current combat drones?
- Are anomalies and plexes unaffected?
- If so, will they always be unaffected?

They are suppose to ignore drones more so than the other advanced AIs. Many play testers are not convinced. They like to attack similar sig size when available. So if in a frig the frigs and cruisers will go for you, and for instance, if you have a buddy in a BS, they will likely get the BC and BSs. |

Even if you never take hostile action towards the npcs, at some point they will likely switch to you, same way a sleeper drone will. They make the switch based solely on the fact that a new ship has entered into range and they don't know what your intentions are. It's not the best explanation, but it's what I can offer at the moment. ISD Dorrim Barstorlode Captain Community Communication Liaisons (CCLs) Interstellar Services Department |

The new NPC AI is developed from the template for the Sleeper AI. It's not the same; it's just using the same coding and algorithms. ..or whatever they happen to be using in place of algorithms, if not algorithms; honestly, it doesn't act like algorithms that I noticed with Sleepers. Seems more complex than a random generator.
Anyway, basically the AI is more advanced and it will presumably move targeting around and actively seek and destroy any potential hostile in range. For some reason, (whether intentional or not; I assume it is), they apparently like targeting Drones. My guess, is that this is a result of AFK Drone mining Missions. ..farming practice.
So they want to get rid of that, and that's fine I guess. I've never really done that, so I won't miss it personally. Theoretically, Drone using mission runners can find a way to adapt, but they will need to be available to adjust tactics and monitor incoming DPS and where it is directed. So, basically, it means players will have to pay attention in the future, but aside from redeveloping some strategies and not being afk, it's pretty well the same difficulty level.
I can't say for sure that it will result in targeting non-mission runners that happen to be there, but I assume they will. zubzubzubzubzubzubzubzub |

Look at it this way what would be your first reaction in a fleet fight to a neutral warping on grid.

Yes. Because target fixation is baaad, mm'kay? Don't do that. Don't worry, care-bears will still be easy to kill. You just have to be more creative.

Sounds like a few miners are going to have to learn how to defend themselves now. You don't scare me. I've been to Jita. |

- Yes
- They identify targets based on how much damage they are doing, but also by trying to match signature size. So if you are in a frigate, and the other person is in a battleship (I just about types battlestation as guys here are talking about stations...) then the frigates will be likely to switch to you while the battleship stay on him.
- Not my area,
- By the AI change? We changed EVERY NPC in the game (aside from CONCORD) is getting the new AI.

Thanks for the clarification, I appreciate the response. I was hoping the way the patch notes were worded that the new AI didn't apply to anomalies/plexes.
It's a shame to see more and more challenges presented to those who would call themselves 'pirates', while those who identify themselves as 'carebears' are given more and more tools to evade piracy despite having the odds overwhelmingly in their favor already. Nevertheless I'm sure pirates will find a way to adapt, probably by being forced to blob more. |
