Eve has sound?
Yes, it does. As a matter of fact those of you that play the game mute will not be able to appreciate the time the devs spent working on new weapon sounds.
So far from what I've heard, blasters sound pretty good. Interesting to note that the Ion Blaster Cannon is still my favorite sounding blaster, resembling a similarity to the old Neutron Blaster Cannon which had a very devastating feel to it.
At any rate, I tested out a variety of Pulse Lasers in particular, considering space laz0rz pew pew! I gotta admit I was very unimpressed with the sound, variety and flavors that came from the lasers. The visual effects are muted, the sounds are subdued and they just don't pack that A/V punch that they used to.
I am wondering if anybody agrees with me? CCP, what are your thoughts on the new sounds? Specifically asking people who do play with sound and care about it as a part of the game.

I'm not impartial since I made the old sounds. I was never happy with the old weapon sound except the projectiles. But we will take a look into this if you are unhappy.
Also I'd appreciate more comments on the new weapon sounds so that we can make one big adjustment rather than many small ones.
Thank you for your thoughts on the matter. |

Old sounds, best sounds. Too be completely honest the sound of them has been getting weaker and weaker. Pretty much, just more bass oriented sounds, I think the trend is the powerful "umff" of a gun in space.

Until a while ago laser sounds did not fade out when zooming out. So I was hearing the lasers at full volume whenever I was doing PvE with my Armageddon which was really annoying, I always had to turn the volume down.
Then some patches ago you fixed that issue and now I cannot hear any laser sounds at all at any reasonable zoom level, I only hear them when fully zoomed in. But I never play fully zoomed in because then I have no awareness of what happens on grid. So you basically removed laser sounds for me altogether (although when zoomed in, they now sounded a lot better than before).
Haven't tested the new sounds yet. Or whether they now scale with zoom level reasonably.
As always, anything sound-related will usually be under-appreciated by most players. That is just the lot of sound guys, as they probably know. Most people just care a lot more about visuals than sound, including me. But I'm sensitive to this topic because my brother is a sound engineer and he gets upset about this attitude very easily *g* . |

As with most things lately, it has gone in the direction of fine, small details instead of giving us the feeling that we are actually CRUSHING something. Missile effects are really cool and detailed, but sooooo small and insignificant. The sound is going the same way. No punch, which leads to less exciting combat. |

^ This. AC's don't sound like burst fire at all, artillery shouldn't have a rotary sound effect imho. The only effect that isn't just the same bass boof! is blasters. Which do sound good I gotta admit. Anyway, the 'mechanical harshness' of the old AC's is now just a bass buzz and the new pulse lasers are considerably less cool to the fizz/pop of old. |

I dont like the double pop when a ship explodes. IMO if a ship died in space there would be one pop followed by many unheard screams. Its a vacuum.

I have used lasers and only lasers since birth so I have been exclusively around them for the past 3 years or so and the new sounds are indeed underwhelming. Very weak and almost immersion breaking. We are thousands of years in the future with highly advanced technology and lasers sound like a pony passed gas. Oderint Dum Metuant |

I too think the laser sounds are a bit weak. They don't seem to scale with size much either.
Saying that, the frigate lasers are fine, just mediums and large. Can't speak about XL's. |

I don't like any of the new sounds in this patch. Its like your sound department either got bored one night or took a load of speed and HAD TO put a sound on absolutely everything. What's with the "Skill Training Complete" bell? My dog keeps barking because it sounds like my damn doorbell. If you insist on having these "Crappy Gameboy beeps and chirps" in this expansion, at least give us the option to disable them. |

And we need option to dactivate and activate any single of the new UI sounds. I like some of them, but they are destroying the space feeling. |

The production quality of the new weapon sounds is very good. However, I agree that the sounds themselves don't fit the feel that has been established for so long. Onomatopoeia ahead.
The lasers especially remind me of the change that was made to stargate sounds, which changed the gatefire sound from ERRRRRRRRR-BWAM to fwosh. It's a change that makes the world of EVE sound padded and soft and just... not harsh.
Pulse lasers have now gone from BA-DANG-DANG-DANG to fa-dup fa-dup, and beams have gone from FREEEEEEM to kdeshhh.
As I said I like the quality of the sounds, but I hope you can understand why this feels like quite the long jump in sheer feel of the weapons.
Turrets and hybrids I quite like, but I haven't used them much in my career before. I especially like the blasters, but like the lasers the railguns also sound padded and fuzzy. Amarrad - Amarr language project |

If there were an explosion in space you would not hear it. Space is a vacuum, there are no molecules for the sound waves to vibrate. With no vibrating molecules you have no sound. Hence there is no sound in space. |

I can only quess that is very hard to made enjoyable sounds efects for mass like for 200-300.000 EVE subscribers, its realy hard to define how SF - sound can be, but dont worry CCP RealX guys like you made EvE unique and cool. Thanks for old and new sounds even some of them are far away form perfect. Personaly im fan of old juke box and old sound in game, for me EvE always got sound.

The laser sounds are indeed lacking, they're not "techy" enough and they lack a sort of bombastic quality. I've tried several different ones and they're just "wrong", it's not because they're different from the original and thus I don't like them but it's actually because it's a step backwards.
They need a complete redoing and I honestly don't understand how the person in charge of this part of the expansion could have given his OK to this. Amat victoria curam. |

Loged in from work to hear the new pulse. Thought there was no way they could make them sound bad. But its just soft, its like really really lacking. I mean the turrets are already "small" for the ship size can we at least make it sound like a death lazer and not a future red rider lazer gun for kids. This sound is giving me {CENC} Envy......... |
