This is really the first part of a two part announcement, but we've found one of the missing boot.ini and it was delicious: https://twitter.com/erlendur/status/276699221065875456 More later.
Jokes aside, then 5 and 6 Dec 2012 mark the 5 year anniversary of the Trinity expansion and the boot.ini incident. It is in hindsight one of the more hilarious bugs in the gaming industry. I hope you have all recovered and forgive us. Erlendur S. Thorsteinsson | Software Director | EVE Online, CCP Games | Follow on: Twitter / Google+ |

This is the most important question I will ever ask a dev on these forums - what kind of cake is that?

So they said they had some extra time on this expansion so they used it to bake cakes? Well I guess your not the first company to make people pay for malware. I'm not sure I see the humor yet :) but someone has a flair for the kitchen so lets all celebrate anyhow. Or is it to early?

I always pictured that morning of the Boot.ini effect as CCP all lined up, and the general in front saying "What we do today will echo in gaming history for eternity!" You know, "Gladiator" style?
The cake does look fantastic though. |

The details are in the devblog I linked but essentially instead of deleting the file (which failed and we deleted a file with same name in the root folder instead) and copying a new file in its place we simply overwrote the file.
