Someone who is bored, and with whom I did not interact. has placed a bounty on me. Is there anyway for me to find out who put the bounty on?
I suppose my opinion that there should be some limits on bounties - (like, some interaction? confrontation? fight? kill rights?) does not matter to anyone - I have only been playing for 4 years, after all. Absolutely do not like this new game feature.
But, I sure would like to know who put this stupid bounty on me - I would sure put a big enough bounty on him/her to get the bounty hunters' attention.

Go to your mail, then click the notifications tab, there is a group called bounties, look at that. This will detail bounties posted at an individual level, a corp level and an alliance level. |

Woah, get mad that easily? Hate to see what you act like when someone blows up your ship. This question is relatively easy. Like I said in my post that you neglected to understand, I stated that I understand if you want to get an answer asap. However, I looked this question up myself, because I had the same thought, and I found it within 1-5m. The OP should try to at least do some research before coming to the forums, a few searches with the search engine of your choose. Because I guarantee you, if the OP did search this, he would have found the answer he was looking for.
I'm not saying DON'T post, but just do some research before you do. |

He's right...
I was in Hek the other day and a player put bounties on so many people in system, he was the focal point of local chat for about 30 minutes. He must have spent millions just putting random bounties on random people...
There should be the requirement that in order to place a bounty a player must have popped your ship, flipped your can, messed with your corpies, or war-decced your corp/alliance.
Not the ability to just place bounties on people for sh1tz and giggles. Its such an annoying trend that this is probably the 5th thread I've seen on the subject so far. |

There's nothing they can do about it. IMO the only way to fix this whole "bounty for ***** and giggles" Is to have bounties degrade over time. It would have to depend on the amount of the bounty as well, you can't expect people to put a 1 bil bounty on someone if it degrades ( idk 10%? ) a month for a flat rate on all bounties.
Something like this could possibly work:
0-100 mil bounties degrade to 0 over a month. few mil every day 100-500 mil bounties over 6 months. Few mil every week 500-1b+ over a year. These would only degrade a few mil every day? week? Someone do the math for me.
Once a say 550 mil bounty gets to 500 mil it decays more every time. Same for when it gets to 100 mil.
Now this is just a rough idea, nothing that was well thought out. But imo something should be done about the random bounties. I know a bounty doesn't really mean anything other than a reward for your killer, you can't be attacked in hi-sec or anything like that. It's just the fact that everyone will have a bounty on their heads.. it just seems silly.

I don't understand the problem with the bounty system, I think it is pretty great.
Yes a bounty should be able to be placed on anyone. It allows a small revenge for anything that annoys people, not limited to game actions that you want it limited to.
Besides, it is only a 20% bonus to the attackers over what they would have inflicted in terms of damage on you with whatever you are flying. The total pool doesn't really mean much aside for how many times that bonus can exist in your deaths. I got a 100k bounty on me, which would probably be good for a death or two in my rifter.
Is anyone really getting attacked frequently due to bounties anyway? |

Why is it that I've played for YEARS now... killed dozens of pilots in many wars and unfortunate circumstances... and this is the first time I've had a bounty put on me?
The new bounty system is a greifing tool and nothing else. The new expansion is beautiful, except for this one aspect.
These guys sit there scrolling through local chat just looking for people to place a bounty on, just because they didn't have one yet. Its not because anything was actually done to wrong them. It's simply to be a fakken Douche-Bag
But they're idiots in my honest opinion. I got wayyyy better things to spend my ISK on other than annoying innocent people. |

Even if it's being used as a form of griefing, it is still within the rules and game mechanics. I logged on a little while ago just to put a bounty on ever single character in system that did not already have one... came to about 35. That cost me a staggering 3.5m isk. As far as limiting to who and when you can place bounties... No, it's fine. This is the way it should be and changing it now would defeat the purpose.
The point I'm trying to make is.. this is how it is now, get used to it. No one is too privileged. You want to take it a step further rather than complain on the forums, try some emergent gameplay(not saying you haven't before) and get a group of the people angry with this char together and gank him. And if he's an alt that never leaves station, then that sucks.. better luck next time. |

Exactly.
Nobody's getting attacked from the new bounty system anyways. Which indicates its broken. Still...
It's not actually creating a viable career choice in Eve to punish the wrong-doer's that Concord can't insta-pop. It's instead being used to annoy and grief people.

I fail to see your point. Its yet another thread full of slightly ticked off players who don't seem to like the system at all, and claim it doesn't work. Probably the 5th one I've seen so far. I
So because one of CCP's developers likes it, it ain't broken? I should hope he likes it... he came up with it!
He also contributed to coming up with the idea of neutral RR's... insurance fraud via self destruct, and many, many moons ago... Concord hunting.

I could care less about everything you just mentioned that isn't about the Bounty system, because that's what we're talking about. With that said, you can place a "bounty" on your neighbor if you wanted to, so why not within this game that is driven by a harsh environment. Furthermore, being able to place bounties on anyone and everyone regardless of sec-status makes complete sense. It works well with what this game boils down to, PvP. Someone plssed you off... Mined the same asteroid you did... Undercut you wayyy too much... Ganked you... Talked some smack in Local... Let's not forget the all favorite, ... Random bounty placement on people who care too much... This makes sense, the ability to place bounties on anyone and everyone for whatever reason and should have been implemented a long time ago.
The reason why I decided to log on and place those 100k Bounties on all those poor poor players was all simply because of the crying and tears in that thread I liked you. I otherwise wouldn't have done it, but because so many of you cry so much I decided to throw salt on the wound... and I'll probably do it again. |

Haha. Well said. You want your right to grief. You got it.
However you are sorely outnumbered in this matter. I don't see alot of people agreeing with your God given right to feed on tears.
I've popped more than a few guys in my day. It doesn't give me a right to harass them in game about it.
But I guess that the difference between a Pirate and a Merc... huh? Ethics?

Indeed, indeed. But... more of griefed the people on the forums. Those 35 or so players that received that bounty, I didn't then talk about it in local. As soon as I was done I logged. One guy did convo'd me in the middle and asked why, and I explained with respect. You've mistaken me, it's the people who cry first I grief. I don't try to inspire them to cry by calling them out personally, I try not to anyway; I have before, but a couple times maybe? I don't view that as professional and avoid it. As far as actual in-game gameplay is concerned I'm not one to rub my victory in the face of someone who just lost. But if they freak out about it, then yes I will have a field day with that player/character.
Griefing someone in-game isn't harassment, nor is a bounty. The people you popped does give you the right to grief them if you wanted, of course not harass them though.
Pirates and Mercs... I'm not sure either one has ethics, but essentially it all comes down to the money... even over the tears... or maybe that's more old-school Pirate. |
