Here are the hints we have
- Festival launcher found on Bucky, now on TQ - Retribution 1.0.0 patch notes mentions the holiday present under the "Modules" category, clearly they imply the launcher. - Trying to link "snowball" ingame gives 3 options, 2 melted ones and an un-melted one --- The most recent melted one has "CX" on it, 110 in Roman numerals --- The unmelted one has CXIV on it, 114
The current EVE year is YC 114 and the last time we had snowballs was 4 years ago. AD 2008 and YC 110. So it's clear the Roman numerals have a relationship with the YC year they were released. Not to mention the simple fact that this is the first time in years we've been able to link a non-melted snowball as an item.
Extrapolation: The festival launcher also says it can launch fireworks. To me this means that it's VERY likely that we'll get fireworks for Eve's 10th birthday :D

Except that last time we had snowballs the launchers didn't need a hardpoint, just any high slot.
That and they do -10 thermal dmg :D The Drake is a Lie |

Hasn't there been a small collection / quantity of these in character hands for some time? While am open to correction, i recall seeing singular, functional snowballs in contracts going for 1b each, perhaps a year or so ago? |

I believe they all melted at some point, and it was a little more than a year ago. I'm thinking 2008 or 2009. zubzubzubzubzubzubzubzub |

You sure they weren't CX or even MMVI? If you look at some old data bases you'll see that the names of the old snowballs have been changed from the AD format (MMVI would be 2006) to the YC format (which would be YC 108 (CVIII) for 2006).
The ones I linked are the old 2008 ones that are now called "Melted Snowball CX" The Drake is a Lie |

I can't say about the precise designation, merely that i recall 1b isk, singular, functional snowballs in contracts within the last year or two, yet long after the orginal 300's had melted. Onoes!

Snowball launchers should just have unlimited ammo just like the noob ships.
Logic for this could be that the launchers gather ice particles from the space around it and compress it into Snowballs.
Snowball launchers should be useable year round. Bounties for all! https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=2279821#post2279821 |

Snowball launchers should be useable year round. Id prefer they release ammo BPOs. Make them from ice roid stuff, or water from PI. http://vincentoneve.wordpress.com/ |

One block of ice should make 1000 snowballs, each 1m-¦ :D
And maybe different ice types can make snow balls with different characteristics, different explosions or trails or etc :D The Drake is a Lie |

Remember the game your playing, they cant even give miners different colored lasers on crystals let-alone making 4 different limited gimmick snowball explosions. |

Are you saying re-use missile effects for snowballs? Or that because they made different explosions to a core weapon branch that is vital in the game it makes its totally plausible they would diversify and put that same effort into a temporary gift when other more permanent effects could use more attention? |

I'm saying it's plausible that they could.
Also, BS that hey can't change the colors based on crystal...how the **** do you think we make rainbow ships?!

I speak of priorities, not technical ability to do so. While I fully expect fireworks to be recolored kinetic missile explosions, if they are in fact unique and impressive. I would have to say i would be very disappointed that the effort hadn't been used for those ship explosions. |

I speak of priorities, not technical ability to do so. Temporary gifts or day to day operations in space to make it more vibrant? While I fully expect fireworks to be recolored kinetic missile explosions, if they are in fact unique and impressive. Then yes I would agree that in the grand scheme of things the priority for a thing like this should and probably is pretty low. The Drake is a Lie |
