CCP Masheen wrote:#2Hi, We have prepared a number of fixes to improve how the tracking camera works and improves d-scanning. These should be released after downtime on 17th December. Please let us know if these changes help. o7 I am looking forward to it!
There are lots of good suggestions I've seen to improve Dscan. I have collected some of them here. I have paraphrased some quotes for conciseness, please feel free to visit and Like each original post.
"There are too many quotes in this post" so I will split it up.

2George wrote:#1When you're changing angle in your D-Scanner you have to click directly on that small ball (in the angle scrollbar in d-scan window), and move/drag it. Sometimes (in heat of the battle) it's hard to hit that ball, so it would be really useful if you could change the angle, by simply clicking anywhere in that scrollbar, and the ball would just jump to the angle that is closest to the angle (position) you clicked on. And thus the angle would be changed by simply clicking instead of dragging. Pretty much like scrollbars generaly work. Nicen Jehr wrote:#694A friendlier UI would be: you may mousedown anywhere on the slider to instantly move the handle to that coordinate. Dragging left or right would move discretely. This way you can click anywhere on the whole slider to initiate a drag to change the value, not just on the 5 pixel handle. Little Things to improve GëíGïüGëí-á| My Little Things posts |

Re: showing the dscan cone in space, I would like to see a visible conic section displayed on a small 3D representation of the solar system.

Dscan is meant to be the biggest intel tool in the game, except that it isn't. Local has it trumped, because 90% of hte intel game is just knowingthat some one is out there. Local provides that info with 100% accuracey and 0% effort.
No decent dscan thread is complete without calling for a nerf to local . With local gone, there is room for dscan to become what it should be; a powerful intel tool instead of the kludgy mess we have now. |

No decent dscan thread is complete without calling for a nerf to local . With local gone, there is room for dscan to become what it should be; a powerful intel tool instead of the kludgy mess we have now. Local's supposed to be the shared communications channel between pilots in system.
In highsec it makes sense that the knowledge of who is going through gates is public. There's faction police and concord to keep an eye on the gates. In low and null it's less reasonable.
If I am sitting on a gate and I see a ship pass through, I should be able to relay that info to other pilots.
What if I click a check box that says 'Opt in to local', and at that point some rudimentary sensors are shared with all other pilots who have opted into local. All pilots who have opted in to local are listed, and may chat, in the local channel.
Those who are not opted in to local can't chat or view the local channel.
If I am sitting on a gate, and I see someone jump through, I should be able to 1) hit Dscan and pick up a unique signature of that ship and 2) share this ship signature/pilot combination to the local channel.
Everyone else opting in to local now has the ship's signature. If they dscan and pick up that ship sig, it's likely that it's the same pilot (barring any switcharoos, naturally.) Little Things to improve GëíGïüGëí-á| My Little Things posts |

I proposed a comprehensive intel system, using primary game aspects that are already present, albeit in a form that competes poorly with local.

For quick review: I made D-Scan something that auto-cycles, and populates the overview with contacts. This auto-cycle effect is a lot like a propulsion mod, in that warping or anything that changes grid causes it to reset. Like cloaks, however, certain ships are able to travel in system with it active continuously, since they are designed for sensor use as a primary design aspect.
IFF signals from ships in your alliance would always replace D-Scan info for that vessel, and would appear in your overview even if you were not active scanning.
Why not active D-scan all the time? Quite simply, like a searchlight, you are sending out energy that can be detected by others. They can know in general terms your direction and rough estimate of distance by the signal strength. (Strong means probably close, not a specific range in AU) Cloaking being on a ten minute manual cycle timer? (Author: Bree Okanata) Fine. As long as there is a ten minute timer for being docked in a station. Also, you can't stop moving in the game. Just add in a way so every ten minutes you are randomly warped to the nearest other player. Keeps people from going AFK. |
