Let's be real. No one looks at the Tech Thread.. I'm going to post here to. I need this answer!! =)
I have a question about how the EVE API system works.
With out trying to sound to vague Is there a way to merge the EVE API system in with a third party website you create? I know it can be done but I'm not sure to what extent so I should rephrase my question. I've seen it on forums where a pilot needs to enter their API in order to register which in turn also registers them on a communications software (Vent / TS3 / Etc,.)
Question: On a typical site where you have a login and register option Is there a way to set it up (and maybe even merge into your MySQL Databases but I'll get to that) so that a user, when he/she registers, can browser, comment, message on the site as their respective EVE self? This registration database would require API using only the bare minimum from the API to function. Char name, corp, alliance, etc,. Thus allowing you an on-site-profile with your base character information available. Thanks in advance for your answer.

It's pretty easy to use, returns XML, you can make ajax calls or do it on the back-end with PHP. The new CREST api will use json, IIRC, but I've only glanced over the specs.
Also, your character's name is pretty offensive. |

Ittos thank you both for the links. Now I seem to have enough of the info required, however, that's assuming that I know how to use the info I have now gathered. Is the code ran, oppted, interpreted, or executed? Where and how should it be saved to do so. And lastly, what interprets the code? I've just realized I know hardly anything about the API system. lol. So i guess a better question is how do I implement the code? |

You interpret the response sent to you really.
For example, https://api.eveonline.com/eve/CharacterInfo.xml.aspx?characterID=92633259 gives details about you
So if you save that first then check the response or parse it directly is up to you.
But basically you could use any XML "reader" function to just get the data you are looking for in the response.
Or you could even search for strings that you want.

Ok cool. So how would you turn the above link into a format that would make up something like what you see when you log into Eve gate. How is the code converted to it respective format. |

That would be up to you to code yourself really. Bottom line would be using like PHP to first download the data, parse out for example the CharacterName, print said name to the web page you wish to display.
The API is only giving you information, how you present it is up to you and has nothing to do with the API itself.
