A nostalgia post for the veteran Beta testers of Eve. What did you do your FIRST DAY in Eve???? That is the first day the game was live and you logged on?
I was actually a Minmatar character!!!! (yes its true). I was because I wanted a Probe to mine Bistot in a .4 system (with no belt NPC's) and didn't want to cross train from Caldari Frigate. After a month I corrected that mistake and created a Caldari character.
So I spent the first day mining Bistot for about five hours with some corp friends........ in .4 space with no npc's and no pirates or anything. (Ah the good ole days).
What did you other Beta testers do on YOUR first day?

hm, i don't really remember, apart from that i was surprised when i found out that you could use those jumpgates without any additional skills or equipment =) just imagine, you'd have to sit in one system for 1week until you earned enough isk to get that "jumpgate passage ticket"

T20 found a caracal, and back then they had like indy sized cargos, so me him and sadfre went and mined dark ochre, then the game crashed, and hammer stole the ship from us. Back then there was a bug where you would be ejected from your ship from a crash somehow, it was wierd. back there there were no cops, all roids looked the same, there was NO market cept for like minerals, and a couple ships, light missiles killed the frigs in like 1 hit, there were no skills, (at least a very VERY limited version of the curent syste) and well it was boring but we had our caracal and our mining lasers

Spent 20 mintues undocking, then flew a round some, then figured out how to mine... did that for a while. Remember when they had the server side memory leaks and the game would get slower and slower in beta.

I got a Tristan from a corp mate, and headed out to mine something. Wasn't much to do really, no cops, no rats, nothing on the market and so on. Almost everyone was in their beginner frigates, so a Tristan was very special.

I was an Amarrian for the first month. Started pirating around Domain area when you could attack outside stations without sentry fire.

I got a tormentor \o/ After mining plagioclase in Emrayur for a couple of hours.
I then went off with the people in my corp and mined arkonor/bistot in a nearby 0.1. Within a few days I got a punisher

Installed it at a friend, i only had 56k and very boorish parents back then (november 2002).
Made a character, we had no idea what eveything meant, how it worked...
So, there we are, in our reaper. How the **** do you control it? We tried all keyboard combos, but nothing. Then, i doubleclicked somewhere on accident (a station as it happens) and moved....
But, i didnt know i had to doubleclick. So, first, there was a euphoria about getting the ship to move. Then, we were moving straight to the station - and coulcn't turn or stop!
So, we screamed like little girls untill we noticed there was no collision detection.
At that point, we both turned EVE off (or rather, it crashed), and started the EnB beta.
I wouldn't be playing EVE again untill februari 2003, when i got broadband - my pc was a lot more crashproof it seemed :)

Mined Omber in Ryddinjorn to buy a Burst, Miner I's and cargo expander. Went to a 0.3 system and Ninja Mined Arkanor. Once I had enough for a full refining, I bought a Probe and fitted it out then created the Oracle Corporation. Gathered the other Oracle players, settled into Sakulda. Bought some BPO's and several hours later launched the first ever Rifter.
A long and very productive day. :)

I didn't get the game right after the Beta ended, I had to wait 2 weeks, so I was a little late in starting, but since the map was just like in the Beta I got a Tormentor ASAP got my ass to Sieh and ninja mined Bistot and Ark for a for a week and got myself an Omen. Then they moved all the good ores out to 0.0 so I found myself in G-ME2K ninja mining the high ores again, but it wasn't long before I bumped into Trigger of MASS in his Maller and was politely asked to join them or leave. I joined MASS, stayed for almost a year before going solo again and I've been solo ever since. __________________

I crashed, crashed, crashed again, again and again. Still those few minutes of playtime every time I got back in kept me awake and playing for like three whole days.
One of my first days I saw one of the devs test out CONCORD or something I think. He dropped some very nice refinable stuff that helped a lot to get myself into a cruiser.

i hear you beta testers got too keep your points after the testing.
you should of lost your skill points when the beta was over, if that was so.

The first day of "live" after Beta. Well... i was working on a big job IRL so I only got to install and play eve on the 10th of May 2003.
First thing I did was join my beta corp (Syergy Systems - run by Synex). Received a Imicus to mine with and went off to mine the last remaining Ark in Ravarin (0.4). Once that was all gone we went further out into a 0.3/0.2 system to mined a ton of Ark there. We were all flying Thorax's after 2 weeks... the looks on everyones faces (the local chat) when we flew past in formation was priceless.

Remember the disaster that was the Apocalypse? Not the ship, but the day where everyone got max stats and just flew around shooting each other. That is in the few minutes between server crashes =P
Anyway, I think one of the first things I did in beta was hook up with a corp and go convoy hunting with them. Before that I was in awe of the graphics, so I flew around from system to system checking everything out =)

My first day ... well i started off doing the agent missions until i got bored of them, then it was mining to get a probe.
And i belive that took the best part of the day to get, even when i found the small omber roids. Ship prices was so much more expencive back then, and when you lost on it really hurt.

I vote this as the most clueless statement on the site! No all we got from the beta was the knowledge of how the game worked... which was priceless to begin with but had to create did not even get to keep our names if we did not log in fast enough.

Edited by: Lady Alexandra on 04/06/2005 23:02:12 being ****ed i didn't get in untill after alpha, i spent my first day in the second beta trying to find the right drivers for my card so that eve would run a bit better. After a few hours, i managed to undock and mine a bit in my bantam. Must admit that ingame eve was a pain in the first couple of beta phases, but the forums wars were great
Edit: And how could i forget the fiction. Forum wars and fiction were what made the beta fun for me. Die gallente scum!

It's nothing more than a rumour.
Last day of beta was armageddon, everyone got all skills maxed and a lot of cash, first thing I did was to attack the cops of course. That battleship made a really big bang.
Anyway, after beta the servers were completely reset, and everyone had to start all over.

My first day.... oh the memories.
I was in my bantam, took me bout an hour of sitting in space to learn how to move and warp.
Well, once i mastered warping, i headed to an asteroid belt and mined. Sold the crappy omber for some isk and bought 2 light ion blasters.
I then went looking for something to kill (thinking ion blasters were like the ones in Homeworld and stuff). Alas, there were no npcs =(. I did find someones drone however, and thinking it was an NPC i blew the crap outta it.
Spend the rest of the day helping other newbs learn how to move. _______________________________________________
