From previous threads, it seems people either think they are incredibly gimped, or very good at their role. Obviously, you lose some of the DPS from a harpy to a hawk, as it only has one more launcher compared to the two turret slots it uses. Yet does the ability to choose your damage types with the missiles possibly outweigh most of that con, or is it simply more of a loss in DPS than I'm accounting? And all in all, what are opinions on the Hawk?

I havent flown the Hawk myself(been thinking of getting one if I have the spare cash just to compare it to the Harpy)however as AS's go the Hawks bigger Brother is the way to go.
I have heard that the Tank on the Hawk is better then the Harpy but as you said it lacks damage.I suppose with the new missile changes a skilled pilot will have a better overall damage.
Plus the Colour scheme on the Hawk is far better then the Harpy _______________________________________________ An tÚ nach bhfuil lßidir nÝ folßir d¾ bheith glic -He who is not strong must be crafty |

Right now it has only 40 more shield than the harpy, and even 50 less armor than the harpy. The two are roughy the same in regards to overall HP and speed, so the Hawk has a hard time doing almost anything better than the harpy. To me, the high slot loss is unjustified. But take my words with a grain of salt, as I haven't flown it, so im just talking out of theory. Feel free the correct me ---

Edited by: Nyania on 05/06/2005 01:58:14 Yet I have heard and read multiple people saying that the Hawk is a born anti-AF, and will pretty much wipe the floor against any of them with the additional launcher slot. Any truth to that statement?

The problem is finding someone who actually flies them. I hear very good things about it, so it must have some redeeming qualities. I just can't figure out why, I think I might pick one up soon and try it out. ---

Same here. Those who don't fly it say it's one of the worst assault ships in the game. Those who do swear by it. I'm trying to figure out if it's one of those things that performs a lot better than it looks on paper.

Edited by: Justin Cody on 05/06/2005 06:03:46 Like most ships, its all how you use it. if you want to fly solo, then you may have to swap out an EM hardener for a warp disruptor. If you are in a fleet, fit either an EM Hardener or web in that mid.
tech II blasters and rockets might be a good idea, or tech II 150's and light ml's and try and stick it out at 15-20km.
Harpies are great snipers, but for close in fighting, the two missile slots let you vary damage. the tech II hybrids (blasters or rails) plus EM missile plus Explosive missile equals you doing al damage types and this makes sense against tanks.
