To all the PVP pilots in EVE, I would like to get a idea if there are any pilots out there who have had total machine lock-ups whilst in combat.
I'm not talking of CTD, but a total freeze of your machine, i.e. no hard disk activity, all comms + eve client halted.
If this has happened to you, please state wether this is a recent thing (i.e. within the last month)

The only time Eve ever crashes for me is when there's a node crash and that is not very often at all. Didn't have one for 5 months until last week when the server issues meant I was getting 3 an hour.

Edited by: Unleashed on 05/06/2005 08:06:57 I have twice, but ive found they've actually happened only a few minutes before and after the actual fights, so far been lucky not to freeze in combat.
edit yes this has been somewhat recent(give or take a month i think? or a little less) ___

I just undocked after a full day of reorganizing bookmarks (5000 of them, may they all bookmarklovers burn in hell).
But space totally wouldn't load. So I restart the client, takes 5 minutes of a white screen and I try again.
This time after 5 minutes it finally load only to see 3 enemies blowing up my Ibis...and seriously, I crash again
I wonder if they got my pod, but I doubt it, since pods are notoriously hard to catch.
The thing is they never ever showed on local, guess that was bugged as hell too.

This happens to me quite a bit, always has with Eve and I've never managed to pin down the cause entirely. It's certainly something to do with my graphics card as the problem has got much better since I installed the Omega drivers rather than the official ones. I suspect there's some sort of clash with something else on my computer but I haven't worked it out yet.
It's not related only to combat for me - it seems to happen just as often while I'm in station doing nothing at all, and I've been lucky so far that it's never happened to me during a serious fight.
Incidentally, since switching to omega drivers I get the total lock ups far less frequently - much more likely now for just the picture to freeze while event in the game continue running. Doesn't stop me from having to reboot to get back into Eve, but at least I get to shut down my computer properly first.

Computer runs stable in SiSoft sandra burn-in test. EVE locked up when "leaving" warp at stargates. Didnt work to click to turn off EVE, so I brought taskmanager up and killed eve.exe. As I do that, my whole computer locks-up and Im forced to reboot "cold". When I try login again I found myself back in station, podkilled.. seems if you dont logout of eve the "normal" way it wont recognize that you're offline. Your ship stays and opponents get a loooong time to try find your ship. Course the GM's could see as little as EVE-servers that I wasnt connected for well over 7 minutes, no reimbursment there. But then again, they did see my relogin attempts.
