As far as I know, one of these recent patches completely removed the jukebox, and with it the possibility to select an audio track or even pause the music altogether. Or am I just so far out of touch with the latest developments that the functionality just got moved instead of removed and I can't see it ?
I really miss those two functions, for convenience's sake. I never really cared for the ability to add 3rd party audio ingame though, I would just pause the music ingame and use winamp with something else instead - something fairly trivial to do when almost always playing in windowed mode.
I say "for convenience's sake" because, for instance, I can still "pause" the music by reducing the corresponding audio volume to zero (although I am not sure if nothing else gets reduced to zero). And I suppose I could use winamp with the extracted audio tracks (if that's even possible to do anymore, with the latest tracks) to listen to the exact track I might like instead of hoping to get it at some point in the game. Or is there an easier way to reproduce the functionality than what I described above ?
Does anybody else miss those two easy ways to pick a track to listen to (regardless of ingame location) and (temporarily) pause the music ?

This is an entirely new and fresh topic.
Nope, still don't miss any part of the jukebox.
I find that without a good mob to provide one for them, most people would have no mentality at all. |

Also, honestly, it's not like I expect CCP to put it back or anything like that (although an explanation as to why they had to remove it would be nice, did it cause some arcane security issues or what - but I am not really expecting them to do that either). If anything, I was just sort of hoping maybe somebody found some better/faster/easier/more convenient way to reproduce the missing functionality. http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/User:Akita_T T2 BPO poll: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=114789 Buying this: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=147098 |

Whinethread made by Akita T ? The world *will* end soon ! O_O
On a serious note ... they've uploaded the songs as soundcloud ... somewhere. I never got to see the link, though ... Inappropriate signature removed. Spitfire |

I guess you can check if the vlc web interface works with the in-game browser, if so you can use it to control the external mp3 player. If you have a mouse or keyboard with customization options maybe you can used that to control the mp3 player, may also be possible with some software that allows advanced key bindings. GÇ£The best way to keep something bad from happening is to see it ahead of time, and you can't see it if you refuse to face the possibility.GÇ¥ |

Less options = bad for sandbox.
I do not see what has won with that now EVE can not be used to listen to the soundtrack of EVE.
I think they just resented the old code of jukebox and to justify disposal of it alternatives have been sought, more elaborate but with fewer features and that no one had asked.
If I wanted background music that changes depending on where I am, I can play all the MMO of the universe. EVE let you hear what you wanted when you wanted and with the game's own resources, and that they have removed it. Is a minor annoyance? Sure it is. Probably is not going to cause enough problems to be forced to fix it? Surely. But it is wrong, and it is not something to be proud of. |

The devblog announcing team Klang is the reading you want to do Akita.
They explain the reason for removing the jukebox and giving the control of what music is played back to the content people.

While doing so, they could have remembered how multi-client players (thanks to the Jukebox pause) could select one client for music play and leave the others muted. Now in order to circumvent the lack of that option we have to turn up and down the music volume all the log ins and the setting is global so the order of which client to load has to be kept the same.
While doing so, they could have noticed how some love to hear the log in screen intro and not the in game music. They also removed that option, now you either hear all or nothing. Auditing | Collateral holding and insurance | Consulting | PLEX for Good Charity

Quote:Maintaining an mp3 player inside EVE, while there are much better media players out there doesnGÇÿt make much sense to us. Keep in mind that all code in EVE needs to be maintained. UIs are upgraded, codecs need upgrading, code is refactored, defects need to be resolved. By removing redundant pieces of code from our codebase, we free up engineering time to maintain, iterate and develop other features which are more important and core to the spaceship game EVE. As we move forward with EVE development, iterating and adding features, we have to be ready to cut off dead branches and prune our garden so to speak.
By placing the music on Soundcloud, we are providing those that still want to customize their own playlists with the existing EVE soundtrack the ability to do so. We opted for that route rather than maintaining two systems, both the new system and the jukebox, as that is an extra development effort, again, taking away resources from more important things. Like always, your feedback is important to us. Let us know if you agree or disagree with this move. Remember though, by removing extraneous functionality, we have more time to work on other things.
bla bla bla, it was easier for us and we do not care what you think because first we will remove it and then we'll see if we will return it to you.

Well, to some extent I agree with you.
Thing is they leave it up in the air how much time the maintaining of the Jukebox took. Was that a few minutes a week, a few hours per expansion? How many people had to work on it 1, 2, 20?
Personally I think they just went for the sound cloud because it sounds hip. No matter what, they have to maintain it, like they had to maintain the jukebox.
If I had to vote and its all the same or close to when it comes to maintenance, then I'd vote to bring back the box.
Actually its rather nasty to ask us if we agree or not agree, while we don't have the full picture. Hi, I'm CCP Arrow, I screwed up the.. ummm... |

What I really miss is the ability to have music playing all the time. I dont like the silence i get some times so I turn off the sound and play other music instead which is a failure from CCP tbh. |

I've always enjoyed the music that the jukebox provided, however, I also enjoyed the ability to turn the music off when entering into a mission. The "up-tempo" mission music that takes over drives me nuts, so I just turn the volumn down. I turn it back up later. I also miss picking and choosing music from the jukebox's playlist, I did have some favorites.
. . . bring back the jukebox!
