I'll be done with BC V by 1/3/12, but it will be a bit longer until I've finished Amarr Cruiser III and Dessie V. Will I make it under the wire if I'm all in by 1/13, or will I miss the boat on getting the full benefit of the skill change? |

I think you will be ok. There have been no reports of the rebalanced Battlecruisers on the test sever yet and those are coming BEFORE the skill split. I think you'll be fine |

1/3/12? I suppose you mean 13, or you were done almost a year ago (or over a decade ago, depending on your date format)GǪ
Or do you actually mean 1/13/12 as in the title, in which case I have to ask what the hell kind of date format that is?
January 13, 2012? Undecimber 1, 2012? Undecimber 12, 2001?
If you're going to go middle-endian, at least use something that's actually in common use (i.e. M/D/Y). GÇ£If you're not willing to fight for what you have in GëívGëí you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.GÇ¥

This question has come up before and the powers that be have stated that only fully trained skill levels will be considered.

If someone who doesn't read the forums happens to be 99% done on one of these skills, then that means CCP is basically robbing them of 18+ days of subscription time. I know they've taken skills entirely out of the game before, and straight refunded the SP, as with the learning skills. That would be a fair outcome for those who have the skill partly trained; so you don't get the windfall of the 4x SP multiple, but you also don't get robbed of 1m+ SP that you did invest your paid time into accumulating.
The idea of refunding SP to people with the skills FULLY trained is of course a non-starter, and they've always said they would not do it, for reasons obvious enough nobody needs to repeat them here again. But they ought to take a look at the corner case of people who happen to have these skills PARTLY trained, and at least refund them the SP that was in that one skill at the time of cutover, when the skill is deleted. |

They said, that only fully trained skill levels are going to be eligible for the split. They didn't mention anything about skillpoints from partially trained skills up to now. So that's open to speculation atm.

This was announced over 9 months ago. It's not like CCP is springing this change on anyone. As such, I'm perfectly fine with people who didn't train them fully to 5 not getting SP reimbursed. |

They said that the changes will come after BC changes go through. Now, we have the basic plan for the changes, which should be happening in the beginning of the year, but judging by how long Retribution took, I'd say the changes won't be live before February if not March. Basically: you're safe. |

SP is always reimbursed. Also, being fine with someone losing weeks of training time is mean-spirited when they've already missed out on bonus SP that everyone else is getting.

Date formatting is evil!
Here in Australia 1/3/12 is the 1st of March 2013. (D/M/Y). Always have to think about what a date means whenever I'm looking at one written by a foreigner. Sometimes they're easy to work out (12/27/12 is pretty obvious) but they can be almost impossible sometimes as well (1/4/13... is that Jan 4th or Apr 1st?) |

You need about a month to train BC5. Dev blogs about big changes tend to come out a month+ in advance. However, I would at least train the prerequisite cruiser skills for each race now.

However, I would at least train the prerequisite cruiser skills for each race now. Just to be clear, the date I was asking about in the OP was January 13, 2013. I had some concern because the dev blog that includes the advice to "start training these skills NAO" is from back in November (2012) some time, so I wasn't sure how close to January 1, 2013 they meant when they said that BC changes and the big skill change will be happening "early next year."
At any rate, we'll see. I'm now less than two days from BC V, and another two days to get the last Cruiser III after that. Then I just need Dessie V, and it will be all good. It was my understanding from reading the dev blogs that they're going to do the hull rebalancing first on the BCs, and then do the skill change "after" that. Since we haven't seen rebalanced BCs yet, I am guessing it's going to be more than a week or two from now when the skill change hits. |

Seriously, how many threads are going to come up about this? I will say the same thing here I've said in those. There is no way they are going to put in the rebalanced versions of the MOST POPULAR class of ship in the game without putting it all on the test server first. I would venture to say we will have at minimum a three week warning of the upcoming changes. Probably closer to to a month.
And when they said start training now, keep in mind that going from nothing to BC5 dessie 5 (for a new character) is about 60 days, give or take mappings and implants. |
