I know the Orca isn't intended to be used as a solo ship; but would doing so be crazy if it is done in high sec? |

As a solo ship to do what? Hauling is what is does solo or give out mining bonuses for a fee in High sec, could work. |

I assume you wanted to mine ore. Since it has no turret hard-points you can only use mining drones. You can do it while it is boosting your primary mining fleet. You just have to park it close to cluster of rocks and assign every drone to different asteroid. Then check in every now and then if asteroids popped.
However I've not tried this since new AI change which probably made this technique obsolete. |

You could go to a hisec system with sec status of 1.0 - 0.8 and not worry about pirates spawning in the belts. Launch your mining drones and put 1 on each asteroid of your choice. Make sure your Orca is buffer tanked with a DCU II and RB II in the lows and AFK all day. Your isk/H would be pretty terrible but you probably would never die. |

5x mining drone II = 125 m3 per minute (plus bonuses but ignoring drone travel time)
In a hulk with good skills, you can solo mine at 10 times that rate.
Full jetcan every 20 minutes or every 3 hours 20 minutes?
AFK mining? What if the rats start shooting your drones or a player comes and bumps you out of range? |

what if they take a particular disliking at your lazines and gank the orca?
i mean, if you are asking this type of questions i bet your orca is rigged for cargo and the lows full of expanders... |

sounds like fun well at least if you park the orca next to a miner you might as wel set the orca to work and mine |

I've not had my mining drones attacked once by belt rats... they love my Orca though which is just fine with me. |

The exact threshold for belt rat spawns is 0.85. I can't remember if they spawn in 0.85 and under, or only under 0.85, but either way you will be safe in 0.86 and above.

You could always just launch your hulk from the orca bay, switch ships and use the orca as a giant jetcan. |

I don't own an Orca but I have fleeted with them and this is my suggestion if you want to remain "solo". You can advertise in the system for pilots to join you, offer them the base fee for their ore although you shouldn't require them to sell it directly to you. If you do this and also have competent refining skills you can make some money and allies quite easily. |

No, because people found out you can gank freighters on a daily basis and still extract more isk and tears than you ever could ganking miners. "Entitlement" is a euphemism for "I hate the way you play and it makes me cry like a baby" |

What you could do, although this straddles the line of "solo", is hire your Orca (and more importantly, it's boosts) out to miners in exchange for a cut of the profits - assuming you can establish a measure of trust, of course. Just find some area where there's a dozen of miners working and offer "mining foreman and cargo" service for a "small fee." Who knows? It just may work. I've joined fleets like that before. It's actually kind of fun watching fifty mining ships erase an entire asteroid belt in under ten minutes. EvE Forum Bingo |

IMO not worth it if going solo in terms of quantity mined per hour. Grab yourself a mack, or if you cant afford it a retriever and use that to mine with. |
