mach will insta pop frigs at range with split guns. With the huge fall off you can pop frigs from 20 km to 70km. This and the fact that torps can't hit out at 70km make the mach much better. You can fit cruise launchers, but the mach will still out dps the golem or even the CNR. I have never liked the golem, have tried it but preferred the CNR. It also depends if you salvage while you shoot.. that would be the only reason to use any marauder. It does take a few missions to get used to the mach, but once you learn to use it, as apposed to sitting still and spamming missiles, you will love it. Only time I don't use the mach is if I am in amarr and am using a NM. Sometimes I do want to change it up and will a rattle or some other ships I have close by, but always get back in the mach.

Big pally fan myself. Im not going to make the claim of what ship is best, but Im definitely going to vouch for Any marauder, as a solid, top tier DPS dealer and better then average tank capability.
Every ship, even the fitting of the same ship could drastically alter the experience of an individual mission.
Today, I was messing around with my pulse pally (perfect skills) watching a Tengu (perfect skilled pilot) literally tank the entire agro of Extravaganza mission with absolutely not a single scratch....
The rattlesnake is the absolute best posible ship in the game for a new starting character, its takes longer then the average PVE ship to get into, fit and do enough DPS to finish missions, but theres absolutely nothing out there that can compare with a 3000 Perma-passive tank 600 DPS ship like a rattle. Rattle is like the pre-nerf Drake, but on steroids, from another planet, completely OP, but boring. |

(Skills mostly at 5 though)
1100 dps with 5 hammerhead II out, 3 tractors and salavage drones = win
with a 1390 shield hp every 4 secs its tank has never failed me (only level 4 marauders)

Only thing i would need is minmatar battleship and the gun specialization skills. like cage man said, the mach has some essential advantages over the golem. that said, the torp golem is still a solid mission boat, especially since the unguided missile buff. the main downside for me is that between juggling target painters, limited range and weak sensor strength, you barely have time to salvage on the go; it's just too much stress for my old age. on the other hand, the mach is cruise control for cool. just orbit something, target something and roll your face on F1 to F7, everything else is bonus.
