The thing with RvB is there is no isk making within it per say. It is also a contrived, set up scenario that while giving you the very basic experience it doesn't really translate over to pvp in the greater eve as it gives you a 'false' set of rules to fight under.
I prefer recomending FW to nower pvp'er and tell them to get into a decent corp that will activly show them the ropes. It also give them the means to be self sufficient in isk making opportunity to fund their pvp pretty easily with can be abig factor in new player enjoyment of pvp. That is the Way, the Tao.
Balance is everything.

Why? Other people are thinking the same thing as you, and can come and see the same answer as you without having to repeat the same question. Taking submissions for "Trinkets friendly Advice Column" via evemail or private convo in-game. Anonymity sorta guaranteed. http://www.localectomy.blogspot.com.au

RvB, less chest beating, stress, cheaper...etc etc
If you decide to pick FW, I'd suggest a few corps on the Caldari side... *insert witty saying here* |

Some people think RvB is more fun while others think FW is more fun while still others think 0.0 is more fun. Make a list of the attributes of each and determine which is more fun for YOU.
My personal choice is FW.
My negatives for RvB are: -No real point of the fights, just fighting to fight. -Nothing really behind what each side stands in. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AcBTOU7RvbU -RvB is more about arranged fights where 2 groups agree to smash into each other. I like the hunt as much as the fight itself. -No way to make isk within the context of the conflict. IE I have to take a break and mission or do something else.
My negatives for 0.0: -I don't like sov 0.0 because of getting my assets trapped somewhere as I often go AFK from Eve for a week or two here and there. -I don't like bubbles because I like to do extremely small gang combat and bubbles make gate camps very easy and effective at catching almost everything. -I prefer fights were individual pilot skill actually matters, not where everything that is primary is instantly popped and all that matters is FC skill and the ability for the fleet to do exactly what the FC says. -Income is based on passive sources (ie moon goo) and belongs only to alliance leadership. The grunts only get a piece of that isk from ship replacement, which is only usually granted when a grunt is defending his masters isk source.
My pros for FW: -Small to medium gang combat <50 all the time. -There is meaning to the sides if you want to do a little closet RP -I love plexes limiting ship types. I enjoy flying everything from a T1 frig to my dread. Battle of Rakapas is perfect example. I flew a T1 frig, destroyer, T1 cruiser, ahac, and dread during that siege. -If I go AFK from the game and a system is flipped, it is trivial for me to get my stuff back (ie black frog, drop militia for a bit to move my stuff, or contract it to npc hauler alt) -Isk source can be made while flying a pvp ship. -Did I mention lots of targets? I was up to 2am local time last night because there were Caldari EVERYWHERE to shoot. They were plexing hard in the Citadel everywhere and were fighting for a plex in most systems at the same time. It was amusing almost getting into fights on comms about who was going to receive backup in which system next to fight the Caldari that just pushed somebody out of a plex. It was literally 3 hours of non stop plex fights across 6-10 jumps. QCATS is recruiting https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=146180

I have done both.. not on this toon.. FW is much better as people will actually teach you how to pvp and you have options to make isk. RVB is only good if you wanna undock.. quick blob and log off. You will need a second toon to make isk to keep RVB'ing |

That is no longer true. Thanks to the corrections to wardecs and the cost, we rarely are wardecced now. Additionally, we generally follow the rule of only fighting each other in the forge region. I've seen a few players jump clone out to a far away region to make isk when needed and bored.
As for the blobs, it happens. However, you also have a horde of people who try to fly solo. You have the idiots who camp stations in a tier 3 bc, picking off frigs when they can, ready to run if anyone lands near them, and you have the die hards who only fly frigates solo.
Additionally, we have themed weekends where fleets are limited to 10 people only, kitchen sink weeks, and other activities. About the only constant rule is don't pod. I find that rule to be mixed. It does make life easier in some regards, but encourages people to fly around with snakes and slaves.
Additionally, RvB is one of the easiest places to start FCing. We let most everyone who's willing try fcing. Usually, fw or other groups are not so open.
Honestly, RvB is what you make of it. |

If u are new to PVP i would suggest RvB. They fly cheap ships, podding is not allowed and there are lots of events without any real risk. FW is a bit more serious, you will get podded, lose faction standings and eventualy sec status. However unlike in RvB, you can make very nice ISK doing plexes and PVP in FW.
One thing is for sure, you will have great time in both.

If you are completely new, I'd suggest at least a few weeks of RvB first. Just to learn some of the basics. Then hope over to FW, take your time to pick a corp though since there are quite a few serious headcases in FW. |

RvB = 1700's battlefield tactics: two ranks standing and killing each other like civilized gentlemen, honoring rules of combat, only peeing into buckets behind curtains and never in public.
FW = guerilla warfare with "he who runs first wins", blob rules, b!tch slapping any chick that looks at you sideways. Oh, and rats you out to the local cops while dealing dope out of his own car trunk a block away. "Blow it all on Quafe and strippers." -á --- Sorlac |

It's funny because it's true.
We also enjoy fox hunting, living on large pastoral estates and enjoying a good mulled wine from the local public house after a fight. |

I'd go with this, do a fixed time in RvB if you new to pvp to get a grip of the basics and mechanics of it but don't stay too long. |

This works well, we have a few people who come to RvB for a week or two , then go back to FW for a while .
