Hi API loving EVE players,
We just got hit by a scraper trying to scrape all the character names in the EVE universe. We have blocked his IP address. We get this type of attacks every now and then. Hope everything is back to normal.

So what would that mean? going through a billion digits starting from 0 to pull any possible characters? What idiot would do that?
You guys should probably add a cache to the character ID to character Name, so only 100 requests within half hour is possible. .. |

On a related note, I recently started to get lots of CCP Error 904 from EveMon [IP temp. blocked with 2-3 minutes cooldown]. Jimi from EveMon says it's on CCP's side, what do you think? BTW, I get that on 3 different ISPs. |

I was last night. Not checked tonight.
But I was doing wget's to cache and use the xml directly.
I found I'd make a request and it'd appear to hang, ctrl-c and rerun the same wget command and it'd respond instantly.
Felt alot like a round robin load balanced system with a dead server. ... |

Same here, I'm still getting a lot of delays and internal server errors trying to access the API.
What I'm doing is fetching a couple (about seven) API keys to check the skill queue (once an hour), I assume that's okay? darmwand Repossession Agent http://www.repo-corp.net/ Recruitment is OPEN |

Tuesday 01/22/13, 2am EST approximately my RG spontaneously reset itself. ATT Uverse. After it came back the only thing that did not work was any 3rd party app calling for API updates. This includes EveMon, EveHQ, EFT and almost anything else you can think of. OSX, Win7, IoS devices, all exhibit identical behaviour.
Evemon cannot get any info from the API server. API Tester returns an "unable to connect to internet" and will serve up nothing but the internal error page.
EveHQ internal web browser works, however no API calls do.
nslookup resolves IPs correctly. Firewalls have been checked and reset. Routers have been checked and reset.
IoS devices taken off the WiFi and using Cellular work properly, put them back on WiFi and they fail.
I can find no other errors or non functional software issues, only API calls from 3rd party apps to api.eveonline.com and the API tester in evemon all claim no internet connectivity.
Acts almost as if my external IP has been blacklisted for API calls
Did CCP Blacklist a stack of ATT IPs for API calls? I can hit the server with normal browser just unable to pull API info with anything at all.

I cannot access API keys in EVEmon as an ATT Uverse customer, either. I also cannot view any portraits on the forums or in-game. Happened at the exact same time as the above poster. Fight us maybe? |

Another ATT Uverse customer having issues. EVEmon is unable to connect to the API server, as is Aura (for Android) when connected to the Wifi. Firefox is able to access the API site with no issues. I'm not sure about EVE Online from the same location, as it's a remote server at a relative's house that I'm visiting currently. This is all after the Uverse network outage roughly 39 hours (tuesday morning) before this post was made. Can this be looked into and the situation remedied ASAP?
Can also verify that the character portrait server is also not working properly. |

if you are a windows user run a trace route in CMD to see if you are connecting to the API server at all or where it is failing. just not sure of the IP of the API server. |

I also have a lot of "500 http error"... The 2 minutes timeout is a real problem.
Some statistics to explain the problem : Number of API request BETWEEN '2013-01-24 14:00:00' AND '2013-01-24 15:00:00' : OK : 937 HTTP 500 : 147
147 HTTP Request in 1 hour, it's 147 x 2min of timeout... I've ~ 2000 API files pending update due to these errors. |

I ran a trace route and the point of failure was the api server as well and I too am an AT&T uverse customer on the American continent.
CCP you need to look into this problem and get us a fix. I have 5 "paid" accounts and submitted a petition 2 days ago and have not had a response to my petition or obviously no response to these inquiries.

So after a bit more investigation. I discovered something interesting. All of our data is being eaten by a system in KANSAS. Right outside Wichita it looks like. Owned by..... You guessed it, the builders of the Deathstar, AT&T.
I am just an armchair IT guy armed with all the wrong tools and a foggy understanding of how this all works so I could be very wrong and our data could be funneling into a black hole somewhere else in the dataverse.
However I can make it work if I bypass certain servers and it absolutely does not work when it travels through others so I am putting up my research in hopes someone can make better sense of it and maybe propagate a routing table to fix this.
Offending Server
Using PingPlotter, Comodo Firewall Monitoring and a VPN connection out to Texas here is what I have
CCP Servers: 87.237.39.250 srv250-f.ccp.cc last hop before terminating for both below 87.237.39.199 srv199-h.ccp.cc api.eveonline.com 87.237.39.191 srv191-h.ccp.cc image.eveonline.com 87.237.39.190 srv190-h.ccp.cc forums.eveonline.com (Firefox listening on this one)
Monitoring EVEMon and EveHQ and this page up in Firefox:
With VPN connected all Apps are functional all calls going to Port 443 With VPN connected I get Portraits everywhere With VPN connected I get normal flakyness of poor overtaxed server srv190 average round trip 175ms srv191 average roundtrip 186ms srv199 average roundtrip 192ms srv250 average roundtrip 200ms
Without VPN all Apps are non-functional Without VPN I have 2 dead hops in between me and CCP.
Error returned "EVEMon 1.8.0.3987 API Error:
An error occurred while querying the personal industry jobs. HTTP error: A request to api.eveonline.com failed with status ConnectionClosed.
There was no associated XML document."
192.205.35.234 234.35.205.192.in-addr.arpa 2 dead hops 64.125.24.42 xe-4-1-0.mpr1.lhr3.uk.above.net
The above appears to be the jump across the pond Servers are still pingable but not much else srv190 average roundtrip 114ms srv191 average roundtrip 114ms srv199 average roundtrip 114ms srv250 average roundtrip 114ms
Interestingly with VPN the trip across the pond is accomplished with above.net servers via datafoundry and there is only packet loss with the hop into above.net average 25% loss.

To AT&T U-verse customers: An article was posted in a local newspaper about the service outage on Tuesday morning. One of AT&Ts data servers has been acting up and causing loss of service throughout the USA. They said it all "should" be running fine, but I'm not holding my breath as EVEmon is still unable to even get Tranquility's status, let alone any API information (which I deleted when attempting to reinstall EVEmon thinking it might have been my system)
Here's the link to the article that was run. |

Has anyone noticed completed corporation copy jobs are not showing up as completed in the API? They also don't show up in the delivered jobs list in game. I know the jobs completed since I just picked up the copies. For one character it shows 2 manufacture jobs completing on 1/24 but nothing in between even though 10 jobs were completed on 2/4 so it doesn't appear to be a history length problem. Very odd. |
