Hi all, I just started using Ubuntu and I have an issue. I just installed the Nvidia driver using the instuctions stated here
However ,on the Nvidia X settings , I get the error message of "you do not appear to be using the Nvidia X driver. Please edit your X configuration file(just run nvidia-xconfig' as root) and restart the X server"
so... how do I fix that??? I can't play EvE without my graphics card A sex symbol becomes a thing. I just hate to be a thing. -Marilyn Monroe

'sudo' is used to run a command as root, so the command he gave is exactly what the instructions are asking you to do. Don't forget to restart X after.
(Note: Sorry if this is *too* basic, but I thought I'd note that the greater-than symbol in front of the command he gave just denotes that you want to run that at a command prompt. You don't actually type the '>') |

run terminal - it is like cmd in windows in terminal type - sudo nvidia-xconfig - enter - press user password - enter - then nvidia-xconfig runs with root privileges

It looks OK, It tells you that you just got a file called xorg.conf, which is the configuration file for the X server (the piece of software that displays stuff on your screen and requires the nvidia drivers) |

Yeah, that's correct. The xorg.conf file doesn't exist by default in Ubuntu. So it was informing you that it didn't find it, then it went ahead and made one for you. |

Can we see the contents of the log file /var/log/Xorg.0.log?
What version of Ubuntu are you using? (contents of /etc/lsb-release if you don't know)

Here is my icon command to start my eve client: env WINEPREFIX="/home/jan/.wine" optirun wine explorer /desktop=0,1600x1000 "C:\Program Files\CCP\EVE\eve.exe" |
