I've been away from Eve for 7 long years, but remember running lvl 3 missions in a Ferox and doing fine. I started off with a lvl 2 one, just to ease my way in,. and was amazed to find that the rats were completely overpowering me - swarms of them, doing big damage so I had to warp away and then return, I could barely even kill one at a time. I have shield boosters, a tracking disruptor, 5 Heavy missile bays with Scourge and (?) missiles for explosive and kinetic damage, either there is something wrong with my ship setup, or the Ferox ain't what it used to be! I realise 7 years is a long time to be away, but if anyone could shed light on what I am doing wrong I would be very grateful!
Many thanks

Oh my, a Missile Ferox, didn't see that dinosaur in 6 years ...
Well, first off, the Ferox changed quite a bit to be a rail/blaster platform now ... meaning it has NO bonuses to missiles, making a big dent in the DPS department ...
Also, even if it has shield resistance bonuses, you still need some hardeners in there, preferably rat-specific ... eve-survival.org was already there 7 years ago, but I'll just assume you forgot about it ...
A passive tank would be better, keeping in mind that "hard shield" >>>> "big shield", and a propulsion module to keep the range open ... but if you're set on Missiles, the Caldari Battlecruiser of choice for that is the Drake (and it's mightily good at it too !).
Finally, what was the mission ? There are a couple of level 2 missions that would tax even a faction-fitted BS's tank, most notably Recon with its numerous waves of jamming+high DPS ships ...
Oh, and Rigs, those didn't exist 7 years ago, and make a huge difference in ship efficiency, they're basically additionnal module slots with slightly different bonuses. My skills : http://eveboard.com/pilot/Kery_Nysell |

If you want a missile boat for L2s, look into the newly buffed and no longer sucktastic Caracal. With Rapid Light Missile Launchers and ok skills it will tear through anything in an L2 out to 60ish km. Just drop 3x Ballistic Control systems in the lows and buff the shield resists up a bit with rigs and hardeners; you can omni tank it just fine with one or two of the new Ancillary Shield Boosters, since you'll rarely make contact in most missions. |

Thanks guys!
The mission I am on is called Blockade, good to know in a way that times have moved on but a little sad since I was pretty proud of my Ferox at the time! I will take your advice, time to sell the Ferox I think, I should then be in the company of around 60 - 65 million ISK, so will look for a useful battlecruiser amongst those you have mentioned.

No problem mate ... but be advised that The Blockade is one of the hardest level 2 missions, with five waves of ships, each wave having a "trigger ship" that when killed summons the next wave ... very easy to be overwhelmed if you kill the triggers "too soon" and have to deal with several waves at once ...
Check here : http://eve-survival.org/wikka.php?wakka=MissionReports#B to see what you're up against, and always fit the right hardeners for the 'rats you'll face. My skills : http://eveboard.com/pilot/Kery_Nysell |

When you need to get familiar with the game again, the Caracal with light missiles for lvl 2 and Drake with heavy missiles for lvl 3 should be easy to handle for a beginner. The cruise Navy Raven for lvl 4 after that and Golem with torpedoes for high -end if you want to stick to the missile line.
When you have some money, the Tengu (tier 3 strategic cruiser) is also a good alternative for lvl 4 if you dont want to skill cruises, however it needs some attention at flying. Not recommended as long as you don't know what you are doing.
Basic advice and the right fittings for missions should have been posted somewhere by the thousands already :) |

Want a mini drake? The corax, fit rocket fuel rigs maybe just 1, and the other rigs to taste, 7 meta 4 light launchers (bring FoF's) 2 ballistic control units, mids to taste for mission. Fly in at 70 km's and fire as they come into range and kite them. |
