So i create another alt and realise the new passwords have to have a number with them. Then i realise my older toons are the old style, just plain old letters :)
So i ask, who is old school and who is new school? Solo 4 Life.1v1 always honored, flying without booster alt since Oct 2010.No ransoms honored even if offered :) |

CCP Zulu..... Forcing players to dock at the captain's quarters is a form of what we actually wanted to get through, which is making Incarna a seamless part of the EVE Online experience. |

Probably not, considering it's impossible to get an account name just knowing the name of a character on it. "The nice thing about quotes is that they give us a nodding acquaintance with the originator which is often socially impressive." ~Kenneth Williams |

Passwords made up of a bunch of words are a lot easier to remember and type. Perhaps not quite so secure as a totally random alphanumeric password, but so much easier to work with, while remaining secure enough to stop a brute force (with limiting on the server side. This suddenly has me wondering if my password is actually all that secure. Phrases like "you can't nerf / buff X EVE is a Sandbox" have the same amount of meaning as "If this is a sack of potatoes then you can not carrot." - Alara IonStorm |

My Eve password has 64 bits of entropy. I consider that "good enough" for an online service where the database is salted/hashed and there's rate limiting on password attempts/sec.
My "offline" password for stuff has 240 bits of entropy. I consider that "good enough" for an encryption algorithm with 256 bits of keyspace where the attacker has unrestricted access to the encrypted file. |

Very very old school
My Computer Science Head of Dept. taught me the value of good passwords when he used to use his Wife's name, dog's name, kid's names in a monthly rotation, & wondered why the students could run riot on his systems
I use the "if the system will accept those characters", I use as many variations as possible & as long as possible, and have for the last 30 years...

Actually i always thought using numbers and letters was the old school way while the new way was to throw in some symbols as well. -Death is nothing, but to live defeated and inglorious is to die daily. |
