Following my previous thread on Copying I'm not pondering setting up a Small Pos, somewhere in high sec. I have never done this before (read a few tutorials already) so asking some help.
I was thinking of using either: -2x Advanced Lab - Advanced + Regular Lab
Do I need anything else, module-wise? Hangars, arrays?
Neither option leaves much cpu/grid for online defenses so I guess I'd need to turn off the labs to online them. However which defenses should I be aimed at? I read ECM is good to dissuade people from attacking, 2x Each Type, 1x Each Type? What of actual guns, should I be getting any, which kind, how many?
Or am I overthinking and I don't need any defenses at all? I'm likely just dismantling it all if I ever am wardeced. |

A small POS is indefensible, therefore you don't need to bother with any.
They are inexpensive enough to risk leaving anchored during a war, though it is also possible to quickly take one down during the 24 hours after a wardec is received, but before the war has started. You also may choose to only remove the labs, so there is less incentive to attack the tower.
A small Caldari tower can support 3 labs. All the others support 2 labs. Material research and copy slots are typically the primary reason for setting-up a POS, so choose the labs as needed for the job at hand. |

Tau is correct in that there is no point in setting up defenses on a small POS. If you get a wardec simply dismantle everything. You'll lose whatever items you were researching but its better then losing everything.
Caldari POS's are the best for research as they have high CPU. As to which combo of advanced labs or standard labs that really comes down to what research you're planning on doing. |

Ah, hadn't noticed Caldari Towers had a bit more cpu/grid thanks for pointing it out. As for the defenses, makes sense. |

In order to plan your setup, you can refer to http://eve.1019.net/pos/index.php. Did help me with my research/manufacturing POS that will go online today. |

Small POSs are great I run two and the fuel costs are very reasonable for the amount of space you get. Anything larger than a small is only useful if you are running a massive operation.
Note I still strontium mine, though it won't deter anyone I still don't want to make it easy to kill and make them come back later. But like the others have said I would just take them down during a wardec, unless you don't have the standings then just take anything valuable out of it. |

Yeah will likely go for a no defense setup. Currently grinding my way up the faction standings so I can deploy and remove at will.
If I run the jobs from the station (corp hangar) the Pos actually has nothing inside right? Invention blueprints are not really something i'm worried about losing. |

Yup as long as it is started from corp hanger in station, (any extra materials have to be in the lab) it is safe. The tower can be blown up and the blueprint would drop back into your station corp hanger. I use remote research all of the time to keep my blueprints safe.

The only thing I leave in my labs of note is: datacores, decryptors, and data / tuning interfaces. |

If it's any consolation I think I remember making a few hundred million ISK from the LP I gained during the courier missions I did to grind standings. It didn't take as long as I thought it would but I ran them mostly on the weekend in a blockade runner. |

As for standings i highly recommend the data center and COSMOS missions for the race you want, I got 0.7 POS anchoring standings for two factions in a matter of weeks. |

I have done L1 Cosmos Missions for two allied faction.. problem is when I finished them I had 1.85 and 1.79. Not enough to start L2 Cosmos Missions = / Doing Blood-Stained Stars for the faction increase at the end then will do Cosmos L2 |

Keep in mind, you can hypothetically anchor as many labs as you want. Meaning, if you can't decide between your two setups and ISK budget isn't an issue (which it really shouldn't considering your labs cost less than a monthly fuel block supply for a small pos anyway), anchor all the labs you *might* be wanting to use, and then online/offline the ones you only want to use for the time being.
Doing so, though, will make your POS a much juicier target.
Also, you mentioned you're grinding faction standing. Check out the Faction Standing Repair Plan here: http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Faction_Standing_Repair_Plan . My corp recently had to grind some faction and this repair plan really helps. For example, by simply doing the career agent missions in the starting zones, you receive faction standing bonuses. You can't repeat the mission chains for faction. But, there are 6 career agents across 3 different systems. Meaning, you have 18 agents who will feed you faction standing. So, don't grind those regular missions until after you've done the easy career tutorial agents.

is there any reason not to drop a few ECM batteries on a small caldari tower? That is if you're only using 2 labs. Fighting is Magic |

From what I understand, a couple of ECM batteries wouldn't make a diference, Tower would likely last just a couple more hours. Easier to just recover the stuff. |

Dropping a few batteries wouldn't hurt.
But, keep in mind, each ECM battery is race specific. Moreover, generally there are 6 spots people might attack you. Meaning, you'll have to put up multiple ECM batteries on each point for it to even be meaningful (or else attackers will just go to one of the more vulnerable spots.)
As someone above me said, ECM are meant more of a deterrent. If someone really wants to take out your POS, it's going down regardless. |

It takes nearly a minute for EWAR modules to lock a target. On a Caldari tower, automated ECM attempts one jam cycle and unlocks the current target, and begins locking another target.
A few ECM on a small tower isn't really much of a deterrent. Having dozens of ECM, more shield, shield hardeners, and other defenses on a large tower is a deterrent. |

Something else to consider also:
There's a vast abundance of offline/abandoned/ghetto/shanty town POS POS's floating around out there.
Quite of few of them have nice juicy labs and whatnot still sitting there.
I believe most of the people out there looking to blow up stations have plenty of better targets with no force field and no reinforcement concerns |

So after getting the required standings I went ahead and created my own Corporation. I waited until after downtime but it doesn't seem like the standings updated. I thought the 7 days in corp didn't apply when creating it? |
