All,
I am planning to set up a POS to do some mining among other things. I have been reading several topics on this and have learned quite a bit. I have the area scoped out and I have questions:
1. From my POS there is a belt less than 100K away. I was considering using the Rorqual as a form of passive support by staging it right outside my POS while my miner mines. With the fit and skills I have I should be able to take out any rat that shows up (sentries). I am a active miner so if anyone not friendly shows up, i will move back to the POS. Good plan or Smoking crack?
2. What is considered on the grid (OTG)? Distance from the belt/fleet? Would the previous senario put my roqual on the grid?
3. Is there real value in compression? In time I will be able to do it and I think I will know folks that will have need for it. Is going this route more based on need? Is there a good profit going this route?
Any comments (I know what to expect- this IS Eve) would be appreciated

Yes I will be using a Capital Tractor Beam (200 KM range) for the cans. I understand that I cannot launch drones or do anything else inside the POS. |

1. I've never heard of a POS being located in/next to an asteroid belt. You can only anchor a POS at a moon and the moon won't be located within sight range (100KM) of the belt. You will need to rethink where you plan to place your POS. Also, i would strongly discourage leaving your Rorq outside of the POS for any length of time. They are very slow and easy targets.
2. OTG is within sight of the object, i.e. it shows up on your overview. This should equate to less than 500KM, i believe.
3. depends on if there is a refining station in the system. if not, i would recommend compression as hauling to a refinery would be inefficient and time consuming. |

Do not leave a Rorqual outside the POS force field. It is unnecessary, and very risky.
Leave the Rorqual in the forcefield, and activate the industrial core in safety.

Generally 250km is the range of the grid, unless someone stretches the grid via grid-fu then you can see things well over that limit. |
