I recently purchased one and I was wondering what type of missions should I get it involved in? It's a pretty awful miner, so is bounty hunting the way to go? Also, what kind of kit would you recommend for the aforementioned bounty hunting? I currently have it outfitted with dual 125mm railguns. I played around with an M-12, but keeping it stocked up on ammo was just plain expensive.
Cheers!

I had the Condor for a while before I upgraded to the Griffin. It is a great scout and light fighter, with good speed and shield power. The best configuration I came up with, using Engineering skill level 4, is two 125mm rails, small shield booster, afterburner, and a reactor control unit. I've gone down safely to the asteroid belts in 0.2 systems to hunt with this.

Interesting you should mention that... I'm a serious n00b and Gallente in flavor, and I've been thinking about outfitting my first frigate for light mining and scouting, not combat. In other words, I need something I can outfit for speed and ECCM so I can skip through low-sec space with the proverbial snowball's chance.
Is the Condor a reasonable choice?

Edited by: Tallon on 06/08/2003 23:40:21 Edited by: Tallon on 06/08/2003 23:39:50 Depends on what you are calling lo-sec space? I find that doing light mining and scouting I use Gallente ships. They feel to me more of a Jack-of-all type ships. The way to explore this flexability in Gallente ship designs is to use the drone bay. Through the drone bay you can add to your firepower or add to your mining ability. You can change the drone bay load out easly to fit diffrent missions.

Interesting.
I was looking at a Tristan for this role. Because I wasn't intending it to be a serious combat ship, the flexibility is a real asset.

Condors are ok u can easly take out the rats in .5 systems Balle/Netsallka. Your next ship should be the Merlin its the only other ship i owned and 4 hi slost 2-turret 2-missile it has the most weapons of all frigates. =============================================== I fart in your general direction! you Mother was a hampster and your Father reaked of elderberry

I would take a Rifter over a Merlin for a pure combat frigate. 3 turret points and a missile launcher slot, mixed with great speed and projectile bonus.

For both speed and ECCM, Condor is kinda out of the question -- you need some powergrid enhancer in the only low slot it has in order to fit the AFBs, which in turn take both medium slots.
Doesn't mean you can't try to use it just for its speed, though.. but here a Kestrel would be probably a better (if more expensive) choice as it moves faster with 3 AFBs than Condor with just two, plus you get one free low slot, higher EC resistancy, extra shield/armor and larger cargo bay which are all nice bonuses...
edit: on second thought forget Kestrel; missed that bit about how you need a ship for light mining...

Well, being very new at this, I am flexible too. I am very eager to do some exploring, and I'm inexperienced at combat. I had been thinking to outfit a ship to make it hard to catch. That's the primary consideration. Being able to stow some of the rarer ores I might find in low-security space is a nice bonus, but a secondary consideration.
So I was thinking of outfitting the ship itself for run-and-hide, but carrying a mining drone for when I find that glistening space bauble I've just got to have. Which brings me back to Gallente frigates... Hmmm.
I suppose I ought to just take the plunge and try it out.

Now that I've settled on a Gallente cruiser, most likely an Imicus, here's the next question: Should I mount mining lasers in the high slots and carry combat drones, or should I mount weapons and carry mining drones?
Which do you suppose is the more effective configuration for a vessel not primarily intended for combat, but for mining and scouting?

I think the Imicus is a frigate ship isnt it. I would have to look at my blue prints I have. I produce all the gal frigates. Message me in game for BYOM and ship trade in prices.

Edited by: xeno calligan on 11/08/2003 03:46:32 Milos: Imicus is an excelent mining ship, but I would suggest having a look at the Minmatar Probe as well. They have identical fitting specs and shield/structure and the main differences are:
Imicus: - 250 drone space - 320 cargo - bonus to hybrid dmg and drone speed per frigate lvl - 240 base speed Probe: - 150 drone space - 320 cargo plus 5% bonus per frigate lvl - 270 base speed plus 5% bonus per frigate lvl
Unless you can really make use of the extra 100 drone space of the imicus, I would recommend the probe. It definitely makes for a better scout ship.
In the beginning, I realized that a frigate just has a very hard time in low sec systems (below 0.5), so I used to do a lot of ninja mining -- i.e. bookmark the good asteroids in various belts in the system you're mining in, start mining and warp immidiately to an asteroid in the next belt when you see the pirates. This can earn you a lot of isk, but prevents use of drones since you don't have time to collect them.
In any case, if you have to decide between using miners/combat drones or weapons/mining drones you should go with miners -- drones just aren't that fast miners.

Rifter baby! With 3 250mm Prototype Seige Cannons loaded with plasma (5k optimal range), one M12 loaded with defenders, one lif AB and a Medium C5-L Emergency Sheild overload. Of course I have 2 alpha hull mod overdrive to get out of tight situations quick (top speed is wellover 700m/s). You can fly circles around your enemy and get out of range of fire to recharge your shields when needed. Angel Thugs are space debris in one to two vollies, Nomads in three or four. Marauders....now thats a different story.
I can take on Marauder spawns in Ennur with a challenge level of 8 (as opposed to no challenge...for the marauders) Security lvl 0.1 and up is fair game for an experienced rifter captain. As well, learn to evade missles. It is somewhat silly to outrun them when you can turn 90 degrees at the last second and fool those missles into blowing up harmlessly somewhere past your last position. Even with this setup, it is going to be a 3 minute battle, bring lots of extra ammo and be prepared to warp to one of the easy "wrecks" to recharge and reload. If you ever see the message that you are being warp scrambled, get the hell outta dodge baby! And if you get webified, don't panic. Turn off that Lif booster and keep that shield up instead, then warp out ASAP.
Remember, it is not dishonorable to run, especially with a rare loadout like this! Those seige cannons do up to 70 damage and have even seen "wrecking" hits just over 100! I have loaded these on my Moa and kill 0.1 pirates much faster than with the conventional Moa loadout...
I hope this helps you out in finding a good NPC pirate hunting ship. Finding the weps will be the hardest part, the rest are pretty common on the trade channels and within large corps with military wings like Everlasing Vendetta.
Oh, one last thing. Never assume another player in the area is your "friend". Be prepared to fight back or run, depending on what they are flying.
