Your actual character/account won't be affected: all that stuff is stored server side. You might want to make a copy somewhere of your EVE/Cache folder, otherwise you'll lose all folders and preferences.
Once you've got a nice shiny new hard drive, just download the game again, and use your current name/password to login.

Making a copy of your eve cache folder is a good idea if you have lots of IJBM (insta jump bookmarks) stored in folders as they are all reset, i.e. the folder information dissapears.
The bookmarks remain, but the folder information doesnt so you have to spend hours re-sorting them (my experience on that anyway). Other than that, your character is quite safe since it is stored on CCP's server however your preferences will restore to the default settings.
Hope that helps

the prefs.ini and the settings folder within the Cache folder are enough to save, unless you care that all those Character pics are beeing loaded again.
Settigns-Folder holds all that folder info for Bookmarks and People & Places as well as the character specific settings (like UI Colors and the like), prefs.ini holds the general client settings.

You can infact just copy the entire eve folder and its subs. It does not need to be "reinstalled" on your new disk, just copy it back and create the shortcuts. Job done.
Not sure if Eve puts any meaningfull registry entries in but it will run without them
Good luck with your reformat. Darwin 4tw
