Whatever you are doing, and whoever you are, you are right. EVE is the game with most hardened population in the world. This is the reason why it will never be a game with 1,000,000 subcribers, and will always dwell on the back of the spacial sort of people. Us
That isn't something I take pride in, that the Eve player base is the least friendly of any online game around.
I see it the other way around from most; there are a few "good eggs", but most players are degenerate slimes who wouldn't hesitate a moment to rob you blind. CCP's tacit encouragment of this behavior doesn't help any.
Be warned, crying about it won't get you anywhere but flamed. Just be prepared to suck down plenty of bad behavior from your fellow players. Thats Eve.

I tried being an anonymous jerk once. I gained a little insight but it didn't really work out so I just dropped the anonymous part.
Think of it as encouragement to try the same thing to other people. I'd recommend finding a community to support, and another to attack or subvert. I'd say challenge yourself to try out unfamiliar roles, especially in this stage of the game. No one is gonna remember who you were anyhow.. not with that name.
Like many MMOGs, EVE is really just a constant learning experience, especially if you are a people watcher. Try not to take what befalls your character too personally, at least when it involves abstractions like your wallet. Some bad things need to happen to the protagonist, otherwise you will just be waiting around all the time.
What I never realized, was that if I left my characters to their own devices without ever challenging them, their personalities simply got too strong. Simply trying to type a simple idea became a tedious process of wading through their way of seeing the world. This character is a virile anti-statist twit, but at least I can get some ideas through the filter.

truth is i dont like most of the folks that play this game either outwith my own corp...
ppl suck up ur a$$ to get something, tell u stuff u want to hear then backstab u... most of my enemies smack u in local... but thats what gives me the drive to play... killing them tastes so sweet, as them killing me prob tastes just as good for them.
take away the hate and we would have a dull game.. just dont expect any love.

Hun, you just havn't met the right people yet. I will give you one piece of advice, do not ask for help with things in local. Go to the channels icon on the left of your screen and find the channel named "help". This is your number one friend for the first few days, you should get a straight answer there.

Hm. PVP games seem to attract the really competetive, and a lot of those people are jerks when they're competing. It's too bad, but that's how it is.
On the other hand, I would say I have had a wider range of positive interactions in EVE than in other MMOs I've played. Most of those seem to result in you being completely ignored - at least here in EVE I have had a few close calls but a lot of cool conversations, too. ----- The price of freedom is eternal vigilance. |

Try a better name, without l33t in it, and maybe people will be nicer. At least Nafri isnt nice to people with mainly numbers as names.
Yeah, running around with a name like leetster, I think, would guaranteed your spot as cannon fodder in just about EVERY MMO.
Aside from that, you get your good ones, you get your bad ones. Hakuna Matada.

EVE playerbase is very helpful. If some players have bad experiences or attract freaks for some reason we cant say that goes for all of us.

Since I don't think anyone could be that dumb and then find their way to the forums to exclaim how dumb they are, I'm going to have to guess that this is an alt trying to get money off people.
If you arent, you deserved to get scammed for your name.

I have been playing eve for a couple months, and I must say that my corp has been very good to me. But I also have a rich relative in the game, so I got help.
But I do think the game is evolving into a completely pvp oriented game. I have found the all the easy mission (lvl 1) are not that easy, do not pay that well, and generally not worth doing. I mean when I have to fly into 0.0 space to deliver antibiotics for 25,000 isk, something is wrong here. I only had a merlin.
I found that mining really pays better than missions. I don't know about trading. I have not been that successful at it yet. and after 2 months i still feel like a noob. and with the new patch, i think things weill get worse.
if it gets significantly worse, i probably will stop playing

I'm sorry, you must be confused. We were talking about Eve Online.
I agree your name sucks though. You're just trolling for it with a handle like that.

The Eve playerbase is generally as mature as you are.
Wether that is the same as being 'nice' I don't know. Lots of people will blow up your ships wihtout needing much reason. One could say that's not 'nice'.
On the other hand, I've only met a fwe people that I couldn't have a decent convo with in the last two years. It all depends on your own attitude. _______________________________________________

Originally by: 1337ster After playing for 2 days in EvE I am kind of thinking people are generally not nice.
The first day I started I saw a guy with a skull and flashin, so I shot at him with my ship and got blown up my the police. Fair mistake in my opinion, but the guy started talking in the local channel saying I was a noob etc and that I generally sucked.
Later that day I was wanting to explore a little, so I went to a jumpgate, however I didn't know much abou them so asked on local if it cost me anything to use them. This caused about 3 people to laugh at me inlocal adn say things like give them 1million isk (which I don't have) to them so I could go through
Finally, I recently got a little isk together (900k) not enpugh for a cruiser yet I know nor doI have the skills to use one, but I got talking to a guy that said he would build me one if I gave him this isk. I thought it seemed like a good idea, however when I gave him it he did a runner! Havent seen him scince.
So is everybody in EvE so mean? or have I just met a few bad eggs?
For a game that is set in such a blatantly unrealistic environment, set so far into the future...
...it can be very realistic.
When you meet a stranger treat them the way you would in real life (be polite but cautious). OTOH if in real life you would give ú500 to some dodgy geezer in a pub when they said they could build you a Ferrari then disregard my advice
If you are going to be asking a lot of questions then the help channel is the best place to ask them. It is generally noob friendly.
But the simple answer to your question is that there are a great number of helpful, friendly people playing this game. It's just that there also some complete jerks and you seem to have found a few of them. Where was your starter system? Sounds like there's something in the water that has made the residents go daft in the head. -- (Battle hardened miner)

In game, I can't really think of anyone who has not been able to hold some kind of convo, granted the context of the convo can get heated at times...
But overall, you need to learn how to talk to ppl in game, you can almost see thier intensions from the way they type, etc...
You'll learn...
Just stop going around giving strangers isk, that's not gonna help you get your feet off the ground.
Oh yeah, you need to start a new character and get rid of that name, seriously...

In real life I am a gun for hire. I'll do anything for money and kill anyone who gets in my way. I am fair and honest with my friends, but I have no compassion for those not in my inner circle.
In game I work in an office.

weird I have mostly very nice experience wiht Eve poeple.
I used to travel a lot chase pvp pirates, gang with other strangers for fights , i usually had very nice experiences.
The worse are some pvp hardcore corps who laugh at anyone who isnt in their opinion as hardcore pvp as them , but they are just stupid/childish.
I usually after fightshave nice chats with poeple who has blown me or who i have blown.
I think you had bad luck, Ece isnt that evil in general:)

Some people can be very helpful and friendly to new players and it might be useful to find a corporation that can explain how eve works to new players like yourself. Some corporations will also give you skills, and a better ship to mine with and do other tasks to get you started.
Usually the only people you can trust in EVE are pirates, and that's because you can be quite nearly entirely sure of what they're going to do if you meet one. "You Griefer!!!" = "You Doodyhead!!!" |

Edited by: Gamer4liff on 29/06/2005 18:33:48 well i think the general eve populace wants to be nice, but they all put up tough exteriors of non-combat people hate and n00b hateing to cover up for the fact that they do not really think they are that good at eve.
its a very dangerous game, with alot of very, very rude euro... i mean people. but there are some very nice people out there.
stay safe, dont attack anything that isnt a red cross and definatly join a corp, it will help you very much. Oh and nobody has to pay for gates.

In my experience Local channels in well populated systems are mostly used by smack and 1337 speaking munchkins. Your newbie Corp should be a much better source of advice and help, at least mine is.

When I started this game I already knew some about it because a real life friend of mine played this game, he also helped me with stuff but still it took me 3 days to figure out how to train stuff!!!! but I eventually got a hang of things.
Being a Gallente I must have landed in a good noobcorp because I got to know a few of the guys there and they kindly helped me into miningops where there was 50% share no matter how much you did mine and in my noobship I did not mine that much. Later I became a freelancer but have never forgotten how helpful some eve players where to me and I always try to help out new players to the best I can, have even been sitting in belts mining for new people as I remember others used to do to us when we where new.
I got a feeling that noobcorps have become less and less friendly than what they used to be, I am now CEO in a small corp of friends and we do help out new players into the game, if you need advice ... look me up and I will do my best to help you out.

To the OP,
Same kind of things happened to me (except for giving away all my money), and I was starting to rethink my stay in EVE.
But, I hung in there and read all I could in game and on these forums. Then one day I got blasted twice by some nasty ppl, which darn near broke me. I was about to quit when I met up with 2 ppl that changed my entire EVE career.
Now I am in an awsome Corp, I still have the same 2 ppl on my buddy list so I can keep in touch, everything worked out and I am having a blast.
I suggest you keep at it and find yourself a Corp ------------------------------------------------ "I feel sorry for people who don't drink, when they wake up in the morning that's the best they will feel all day" - Frank Sinatra |

1: Get a good name and stick with one character for at least a month or two. 2: Post here. Few people really are that mean to regulars here, especially if they are decent enough people when they post. The last game I was in, they all were "yeah - it's that goofball" and pretty much left my quirky butt alone. (grin) 3: Join a corp. I did. I'm not proud ;) - I signed up to tag along with others who could give me a ship and tell me how to do it better than noobing my way through things. this coming from someone who has been playing video games since an atari 2600.(25 years in case you are counting). New game, new dynamics. That, and making friends is the whole part of a MM game. Otherwise I'd just play X2 or Homeworld. Throw yourself right into a corp and get to know 20, 30, 50 people asap.(just be nice - lol) 4:Be sane. It's a player-driven economy and world. Don't get people mad, don't shoot up stuff... That, and poice won't always save you. 4A: Keep the local channel open. 90% of the time,, peolpe ask what you are doing there. 4B: Print out the map frm this website of areas. Red=bad. Yellow=guns at the gates with no police backup 90% of the time(.5 systems). Green=where you are safe an should stay. 4C:Click the "stay in safe areas" box and the "Avoid pod-killing zones" in the map as well. 0.4 and under isn't for anyone under three months old. 5:Realize that the game requires a lot of time and skil training, as well as mining in the beginning.
