Seems to be that the forums are used for, by and large, complaining. And yes, I realize I am, in essence, complaining about people complaining.
I noticed, during an ill advised trip though the other EVE boards, it seems to case here... as it was in WoW. and LOTRO. And CoH. And Earth and Beyond. And virtually every MMO I've ever played. And it made me wonder... why?
Most forums, you need to have an active subscription to post. So people pay $15 a month for a game... then complain about it? And some of the arguements make no sense to me. EVE is nearly 10 years old, and still the lowest pop I see, early in the mornings when I get home, is over 20,000. So it must be doing something right. WoW is the most popular MMO ever. CoH spawned a fanbase so loyal that they fought tooth and nail to keep it open, and have spawned at least 2 spiritual successors.
And yet... someone with no game design experience, and I'm sure in some cases little real world experience, thinks that if the designers don't do something he wants, the game will die. Ego much?
so in short... I'll be staying in OoPE for my at-work EVE community fix. |

Armchair experts make the best experts.
Much like backseat drivers, theyve probably been around since the first caveman picked up a rock and the second told them "your doing it wrong" ...
Sadly you'll never ever escape them. |

Oh god, you had to remind me. My mother is the worst with that. "Slow down! Speed up! There's a stop sign! There's a light!" |

What disturbs me more is the constant repetition of the same 'topics' if that's what they can be called. The whole High Sec Thing, and all the Mining Carebears Must be Eliminated Thing and I Hate Scary AFK Cloakers Thing, yadda yadda yadda ad infinitum.
Rarely RARELY is anything interesting or original posted at all. It's like an escape valve for the basest crap buried in the more smallminded aspect of humanity in order to rabble rabble rabble with whoever else wants to join in and spit on each other. And those interesting and original posts often gets derailed into the same usual whine / flamewar. If you are having Smurf problems I feel bad for you son I got 99 problems but a Blue aint one. |

By the 'usual suspect' exact same people. America is the only country to go from barbarism to decadence (and back to barbarism - KI) without civilization in between. - Oscar Wilde - 1870's |

Well, I for one am happy that you decided to play for team OoPE.
Nice to have you on our side.
And I think it's good enough to only look into other forum sections once in a while, only to pour some gasoline into a beautiful fire and then quickly come back to OoPE.
Please don't feed me. |

You all with this thread reminded me of the marvelous "Plight of the Carebear" by Duban-FP , a wonderful thread I had the pleasure of reading back in 2007. That thread is a testament to how even today, in 2013, the forums are THE SAME with the seasonal cycles.
See, when you have been in the forums like I have (2005 for me, much earlier for others) You will begin to enjoy the cycles.
Forum Cycles are like the The Seasons, and I consider myself one of the Troll-Druids waiting for the Flamewar Equinoxes to happen.
Please, don-Št hate on our religion, its fun, lets you know who is who and give you a sense of stability in this volatile e-world the EVE Forums are.
Coming here to complain about complainers is also a sacred Cycle, and I have several threads during the years proving this.
Enjoy the EVE Forums, they have much more depth than you can imagine, at least within several layers of meaning of patterns. Inner Sayings of BrujoLoco: http://eve-files.com/sig/brujoloco |

If you carefully read this thread, you will find that your sentence here makes absolutely no sense.
But then I guess Thread Crashing is another of your erstwhile 'sacred cycles'.

I think forums complaining has become an 'institutional culture' effect. The first time you look at the forum messages, you see complaining. By many different people. So you go, "Oh, that's the culture here. That's the way to behave in this room." It's kind of like when you first walk into a party, or your first day in a new job. You scope out the culture and follow the cues. The cue is that complaining and bashing the game is not only common, but also a popular way to interact and get attention. So the complaining just perpetuates into an endless whining sound, forever and ever, to infinity-- and beyond!
Sound plausible? If you help someone when they're in trouble, they will remember you when they're in trouble again.
