Hello guys I havn't decided yet which ships to train for my EWAR alt. I believe I may have narrowed it down to the Keres which has a RSD and point range bonus and the Kitsune which has an ECM bonus. Does ECM trump RSD's on a huge level? When dual boxing, do you think the point range bonus of the Keres would be very useful in nullsec or would you recommend the brute jamming force of the Kitsune (with no tackle).
Let me know what you think. Thanks guys :). |

Tbh, a Celestis damps > Rook/Falcon/Kitsune/griffin/Scorpion/Widow now, because the celestis damps lock range SO far.
But, if you're planning to "solo" pvp, and use an alt to bail u out of trouble, ECM is ur best shot. -Buhhd |

Sensor dampening is reliably effective, whereas ECM is more chance based. Sensor dampening will be more useful against longer ranged ships - close range ships will still be able to lock you. However, in a Keres you are likely capable of dampening targets down to ludicrously short ranges, so you may be safe even there. ECM will totally disable a target regardless of lock ranges or scan resolution, but sensor strength may negate the effect. ECCM is often fitted on logistics ships to prevent them from being jammed for this reason. Sensor dampeners will still have an effect on the logistics - if you dampen the logistics then they won't be able to provide repairs to their fleet at a respectable range or lock targets fast enough.
Personally I would go with the sensor dampeners. You don't have the chance of missing a cycle and being completed screwed over, though close range ships can still harm you. As a side-note, reconsider your ship choice. The Maulus and Griffin are vastly cheaper than the Keres and Kitsune, require less skill training, and are almost as powerful.
EDIT: I don't have as much experience with cruisers but my gut feeling tells me that the Celestis would be generally better than a Blackbird. |

Used right, damps are the only reliable counter to ECM, and work against logi in a similar fashion to ECM. Using them requires more situational awareness, you have to be constantly aware of how ships are moving on the field, their targeting ranges or locking times, and selecting targets independently so that your damping benefits your gang most. You don't have the damping power or slots to handle multiple targets except in some very niche situations, which balances damping ships.
Celestis can fit a decent tank, has a nice drone bay (ECM drones+scan res damps = frustrated target) and even contribute some dps.
Electronic Attack Frigates haven't been balanced yet and currently overshadowed by their T1 versions.

Try to combine ECM with sensor dampeners dampening a target's locking speed. When an ECM jam fails will it take more time for a target to lock back on to you. |

EWAR goes all over the place over time. Back when damps stacked they were king, then they got nerfed and ECM took center stage. Who knows what things will be like next year. I read a dev blog somewhere that said damp sales were down, and they believe that they were over nerfed. Its a tough aspect of the game to keep balanced, and something that CCP watches.
So for the long haul your probably better off flying the ship that you most like the looks of and learning to use that as well as it can be regardless of what is "best" right now.
This is a youtube playlist going over my first 30 ship losses. Video sucks but the audio came out well. There are some good lessons, and if you know the game there's some funny stories. |

Yes, exactly. Even more important is to realize that what's praised on the forums is hardly never as good in reality, and what is despised is never really that bad. EVE players are like hipsters, they just go with the trend winds and forget to use their own common sense.

Damps RELIABLY counter ECM & logistics ships. They are also useful for general DPS suppression.
Tracks are reliable on turret ships and maybe missile boats in the future, but for now if you have a spare midslot and the FC doesn't want something else then a damp will probably be of most use.
ECM.... well I think the problem with that is that damps are more like the way ecm really works, but in Eve the problem is ECCM which simply isn't good enough in most instances to sacrifice a slot. |
